Chelsea are preparing to take on Brentford, and it’s going to be a tough debut for Jordan Henderson, who is making his club debut.

Chelsea have a brand new central midfield pair tonight – both debutants.

Valentin Barco has played a few times as a sub and in the cup, but there are Jordan Henderson’s first minutes for the Blues. After a bad broken wrist picked up in the summer with England, he’s been waiting for the all clear to play.

“It has been a little bit frustrating [being injured], but I’ve just tried to stay as fit as I can while waiting for this opportunity,” Henderson said to Sky Sports when asked about the last couple of months.

“So I am just looking forward to it, it has been good to settle in with the team the last month or so, even though it has been frustrating not playing the games. But hopefully now I can get involved.”

Because it was an arm injury, he should have been able to train pretty full in the last weeks, so he shouldn’t be too far off the pace. All the same, to be dropped into this game in a weakened team for your first match of the season is a tall order.

In other news…

Henderson wasn’t the only surprising name on the teamsheet for tonight’s game, as it turned out…

There are some concerns that Brentford match up very well with Chelsea in many aspects of their game, especially out wide.
