French media write extensively about Mika Godts after his first goal for Paris Saint-Germain
Mika Godts showed his class at Paris Saint-Germain for the first time on Monday. The French media, previously sceptical about the forward who arrived from Ajax, were impressed too.
Off the bench, Godts scored one goal and set up another in a 2-0 win over Olympique Lyon. The victory sent PSG top of the table in France.
"PSG go top thanks to the substitutes (Mayulu and Godts, ed.)," reads the headline in L'Équipe. The paper also praised the Belgian's finish: "With a powerful shot, he left goalkeeper Dominik Greif with no chance."
According to Foot Mercato, Godts helped PSG take control of the match. "The Belgian made an immediate impact. He made a perfect entrance, first with his intensity, then with his efficiency, and scored his first goal for PSG."
Le Parisien had previously been particularly critical of Godts, but now expects this to be a turning point, especially with Kvhicha Kvaratskhelia sidelined long-term. "This may well be the night Mika Godts truly became a PSG player," the local newspaper wrote.
"This is the moment when a newcomer makes an impression and stuns his opponents. Désiré Doué made himself immortal in red and blue in December 2024 during the Champions League match against Red Bull Salzburg, with a goal and an assist. Now history is repeating itself. Moreover, Lyon may well be stronger than the Austrians were at the time."
"The players who are currently injured will discover that the team have coped excellently in their absence and that new residents have since arrived, including the increasingly prominent Mika Godts," Le Parisien continues. "His new team-mates have already entrusted him with the keys to PSG on Monday evening."
