Every Real Madrid player ranked from best to worst vs Atletico Madrid
Real Madrid were awful against Atletico Madrid in their 2-1 loss at the Wanda Metropolitano on Sunday. There were not many players who looked good, let alone great - and a lot of them were dreadful.
The fact that Jose Mourinho defended them made little sense, but that is a topic for another article.
Real Madrid need to improve drastically after the international break if they want any chance of a title for the first time in three seasons, and they have to chase a rampant Barcelona who are already six points ahead.
With that said, these are the players from the derby, ranked from best to worst.

Thibaut Courtois
Not the best start to an article when your best player is your goalkeeper. Courtois once again saved Real Madrid from embarrassment after making some huge saves for the team over the course of the Madrid derby. That stop in the second half would be talked about for a very long time.
Bernardo Silva
A player who only played a handful of minutes was Real Madrid's second-best player. Make of that what you will. Provided a brilliant cross to assist Rudiger's goal, and was the only player who was not scared of having the ball in the final stages. Looked good, and should have played the entire match.
Jude Bellingham
At least he tried. Bellingham was consistently trying to dribble past players and make things happen, and even though he failed to score or assist, he was one of the few bright spots from the match.
Antonio Rudiger
Rudiger scored the lone goal for Real Madrid late in stoppage time, and had a couple of decent interventions.
Yan Diomande
Completed four dribbles, looked like Real Madrid's best attacker by far - at least he tried to make things happen. Was a bit sloppy defensively in the build-up to Real Madrid's second goal.
Ibrahima Konate
Despite being partially at fault for the second goal, Konate generally had a good game. Defensively sound, as there were some interventions in the first half, before two goal-saving clearances in the second cemented his place as one of the team's few decent performers.
Marc Cucurella
Struggled with the ball at times, and was given too much to do defensively, but Cucurella tried his best. Had a lot of tackles, and was trying to manage two or three players by himself. Fair play.
Eduardo Camavinga
A decent cameo off the bench. Did not have too much to do, but at least he did not flop like the a lot of his teammates.
Arda Güler
He did not do enough. There were many points where he struggled to keep the ball - losing possession 13 times in the 50-odd minutes he played. Real Madrid needed more from him.
Fede Valverde
Where was he? Real Madrid played for more than 90 minutes, and yet, Valverde's influence could not be felt. He was not good, but was lucky to escape with just a sprain in his ankle after that foul from Lee Kang-In.
Kylian Mbappe
Toothless with the ball. Did not defend enough without it. Had a couple of good sequences in attack, but did not provide the team with any goal threat.
Dean Huijsen
Difficult to not put him last for the unfortunate penalty, but Huijsen did have a good game overall. If he hadn't got a red card, he would have been much higher regardless of the result.
Aurelien Tchouameni
Horrible performance. Did not provide much in any area of the pitch. Tchouameni has seen his contract get renewed, but really, he has not performed consistently well over a season since 2024. He has to be held accountable.
Vinicius Junior
Real Madrid needed so much more from him, and they got nothing out of the Brazilian. Hooked near the 50th minute mark, Vinicius Junior did not do enough. Horrible with the ball, careless without it.
Denzel Dumfries
I still don't understand why Jose Mourinho keeps fixating on starting Dumfries as a right-back. Is he even better defensively than Trent anymore? Woeful performance.
