Pep Chavarria was a last minute scratch for Chelsea against Everton, and he had tests on his injury over the weekend.

One negative from the weekend’s win over Everton was the fact that Chelsea picked up two injuries.

Emi Martinez got a broken jaw which looks set to rule him out for a month or so, while Pep Chavarria pulled out in the warm up.

Xabi Alonso provided an update after the game on Saturday, saying that the full back “felt something” with his “last action in training.”

There was no detail on what exactly the injury was, but it doesn’t sound major.

The boss confirmed that the Spaniard would have further tests on Sunday, and we assume we’ll get an update on that during his press conference previewing the Tottenham game later this week.

Jorrel Hato started the game and did well at left back, so we assume he’ll keep his place on that side, with Marco Palestra now ready to come into games in the second half as he did against Everton.

Even without Chavarria and James for now, Chelsea have the depth to cope.

Mike Penders make his Premier League debut on Saturday, and former England defender Stuart Pearce was among the pundits impressed by his showing.

Chelsea won the game on Saturday without a goal or assist from their front three – that’s a great sign for the team.

Fabrizio Romano says Chelsea are going to try and buy Alex Scott in January, but it will cost them big money.
