PSG established a three-point lead at the top of the Champions League table after a comprehensive 6-0 victory against Villarreal.

Luis Enrique’s side registered a 10th successive win in emphatic style, going 4-0 ahead within 17 minutes through Joao Neves, Desire Doue, Senny Mayulu and Fabian Ruiz. Ruiz struck again early in the second half, before substitute David Boly rounded off the scoring in the 78th minute.

Meanwhile, Harry Kane missed the chance to match Cristiano Ronaldo’s milestone of scoring in 11 consecutive Champions League games.

Appearing in his first European fixture since winning the Ballon d’Or, the England skipper drew a rare blank, but second-half goals from teenager Lennart Karl and Konrad Laimer secured a 2-0 win for Bayern Munich at Atletico Madrid. Kane registered an assist for Laimer’s goal that wrapped up the victory for the German giants.

Over in Spain, Barcelona moved up to second place by bringing Aston Villa’s 100 per cent record to an end with a 3-0 win at the Nou Camp.

Lamine Yamal provided an early opener, and after Villa’s Matty Cash, Victor Lindelof and Johan Manzambi missed chances, a second-half double from Raphinha sealed Barca’s third victory in four European matches to keep them on course to reach the knockout stages.

At Old Trafford, Manchester United ended a nine-game winless run across all competitions, staging a remarkable comeback from 2-0 down to beat Roma 3-2.

The current slump has left head coach Michael Carrick’s future uncertain, and his team faced a bleak half-time reality following Matias Soule’s opener and a Donyell Malan penalty.

United captain Bruno Fernandes converted a twice-taken spot-kick to spark the recovery, before Bryan Mbeumo saw a shot strike both posts and Matheus Cunha scored twice before receiving a red card in stoppage time.

Elsewhere, Inter Milan claimed a 3-0 victory at Feyenoord, while Galatasaray, Sporting and LASK also picked up wins. Bodo/Glimt and Lille played out a 0-0 draw.

There will be nine more Champions League matches on Wednesday night, with Arsenal taking on Slavia Prague, Liverpool facing Dirk Kuyt’s Fenerbahce and Manchester City playing RB Leipzig
