Carrick confirms Man Utd injury blow ahead of Chelsea clash
Manchester United boss Michael Carrick has confirmed Benjamin Šeško is set for an extended spell on the sidelines with a shin injury.
The striker has not featured since the Carabao Cup defeat to Brighton and Carrick says United are still waiting to establish exactly how long he will be out for.
“Unfortunately, Ben looks like he’s going to be out for a period of time,” Carrick said.
“We’re still not clear on exactly how long but it’s going to be a longer period of time.
“It was the process and, as I said to you before, we had to go through the process, a bit of a healing process for the injury, to see how it would react, in what direction to go with that.
“So, even now, we’re still working through it but, yeah, it’s unfortunate.”
Carrick admitted Šeško’s absence is a significant blow but says United will work to get him back as soon as possible.
“Obviously, first and foremost, for Ben, for the kind of period that he’s had and tried to get through it,” he added.
“Going through this again, and for us to not have him available, is obviously a blow, but we’ll try to get him back as quick as we can.”
There was better news on Kobbie Mainoo, who has returned to training after missing United’s last four matches.
“[In terms of] good news, Kobbie has done a little bit of training yesterday,” Carrick said.
“So, he’s back and around the group, so that’s obviously positive.”
