BREAKING: Chelsea lose regular starter to potential serious hamstring injury
Chelsea look like they’ve just lost Maxence Lacroix to a hamstring injury midway through their cup game.
Chelsea have just played out a pretty dire first half in the EFL Cup against Liverpool at Anfield, and things went from bad to worse just before the break when Maxence Lacroix went down holding his hamstring.
The defender was eventually taken off and limped incredibly gingerly around the pitch. It doesn’t look good at all – just from looking at him we’re thinking it’s going to be a minimum of a month.
Levi Colwill has come on to replace him for the rest of this game, and he looks like he will have a lot to do.
Chelsea may need defensive reshuffle after latest injury
If Lacroix is out for a long period, it will mean Fofana returning to his place as a first team regular. It should also guarantee Josh Acheampong (who has played instead of Fofana in the Premier League in recent games) even more starts.
He’s the real winner here. Aaron Anselmino – if he is ever able to get fit – should also move up the pecking order and get onto the bench and perhaps even some minutes if Lacroix misses significant time.
In other news…
One person who we have yet to see tonight is Estevao, who we all expected to start. It’s not good news for him that he’s not.
Estevao’s absence isn’t the only notable thing about the team that Xabi Alonso selected for tonight’s game, you can see it here.
Joao Pedro is out tonight, and there are rumours of Chelsea interest in a new backup for him.
