The trip to Greece turned out to be a successful one as Real Madrid secured the victory in the most Real Madrid way possible against a well-drilled AEK Athens team.

The defence was heavily rotated, while the midfield and attack were more or less the first choice, with only Arda Guler and Aurelien Tchouameni absent from the squad.

With that being said, this is how the Real Madrid players fared against AEK Athens.

Player ratings

Thibaut Courtois – 6.5/10

A rare disappointing display by the Belgian. Unable to keep a clean sheet yet again and failed to stop 2 easily preventable goals. Bad day at the office.

Denzel Dumfries – 6.5/10

Delivered an assist but was quite vulnerable in defence. Athens quite frequently troubled the right wing of Dumfries, who was unable to deal with it solidly.

Eder Militao – 7.0/10

Nice to see the Brazilian back in the lineup. Rightfully so looked rusty but was involved in 10 defensive contributions, including 3/3 tackles, 2 interceptions, and won 5/7 duels.

Antonio Rudiger – 6.5/10

A performance below his standards, especially being the senior-most centre-back in the squad. 2/4 duels won, 4 clearances and 1 interception made.

Marc Cucrella – 7.0/10

The Spaniard frequently made some rash fouls in the opening half and finally, at the hour mark, received a yellow card. Recorded an assist and won 4/4 tackles.

Eduardo Camavinga – 7.5/10

Looks like a completely different player compared to last season and has seemingly worked hard. Not only did he deliver a couple of key passes, but he also won 8/9 tackles and made 6 recoveries.

Bernardo Silva – 7.0/10

Had a better outing compared to the match over the weekend. Completed 96% of his passes and provided 2 key passes as well. The Portuguese midfielder also made 6 recoveries.

Yan Diomande – 7.0/10

The youngster started on the right wing last night as Vinicius returned on the left. Produced sudden bursts of pace, disturbed the Athens defence and had a decent outing overall.

Jude Bellingham – 9.0/10

A class apart from any other midfielder in the world, and he has proven that time and time again. Guler’s absence led the Englishman to dictate the tempo of the game, remain calm under pressure and score a cheeky equaliser. A deserved man of the match award.

Vinicius Junior – 6.5/10

Another frustrating outing for the Brazilian, who looks like a complete shadow of himself. The Athens right-back dealt with him and kept Vini quiet. Made a couple of key passes and created a big chance.

Kylian Mbappe – 8.0/10

Had a total of 7 shots at goal and until the second equaliser, the Real Madrid star had had a bang-average game. He hit the crossbar later on after a spectacular save by the Athens goalkeeper. Equalled his best goal-scoring streak in the Champions League.

Substitutes

Fede Valverde – 7.5/10

Valverde and scoring bangers? A better love story than Twilight. With Real Madrid’s perfect record under threat, he absolutely bludgeoned a shot into the back of the net in stoppage time to secure the 3 points.

Endrick – 6.5/10

Jose Mourinho was all praise in the post-match presser for Endrick and rightfully so. Full of energy and lethal against tired legs. Strung a couple of key passes and also had a shot on target.

Alvaro Carreras – 6.0/10

Came on for Cucurella and held his ground for a 9-minute cameo. Defensively made just a single recovery while also making a key pass on the attacking front.

Brahim Diaz – 6.5/10

Did not get to start the match, but provided an assist for Valverde’s screamer. The Moroccan now has 3 assists in as many UCL games this season.

Carlos Espi – N/A

Just had 3 touches in the dying moments of the match, which is not enough to warrant a rating.
