  • Sheffield United have lost all three of their matches this season

  • Millwall have won eight of their last 12 competitive outings

  • Recommended bet: Millwall or draw double chance

It appears that Sheffield United have not yet recovered from losing last season’s Championship play-off final to Sunderland and they will be wary of suffering another early setback at home to Millwall on Saturday.

The Blades were readily brushed aside 4-1 by Bristol City in their Championship curtain-raiser at Bramall Lane and then they limped to a 1-0 loss at Swansea, where they failed to register a single shot on target.

It has been a mixed start from Millwall, who won 2-1 at Norwich in their opener before enduring a 3-0 beating at home to Middlesbrough, but the general feeling is that they have assembled a strong squad.

The Lions edged to a 1-0 success at Bramall Lane last season and they will feel they can do similar as they bid to heap the early pressure on the beleaguered Blades.

Team news

Sheffield United remain without long-term absentees Jamie Shackleton, Tom Davies, Sai Sachdev and Ollie Arblaster but manager Ruben Selles is expected to make changes after their sluggish start to the season.

Tom Cannon and Ryan One are among those pushing for starts as the Blades bid to bolster their underperforming frontline.

For Millwall, experienced defender Joe Bryan, goalkeeper Lukas Jensen and Dan McNamara are sidelined, while summer arrival Alfie Doughty must be assessed after lasting only 57 minutes of last weekend’s 3-0 defeat to Middlesbrough.

Prediction

For one reason or another things have yet to get going for Sheffield United, who appear to be feeling sorry for themselves after last season’s 2-1 defeat to Sunderland in the play-off final at Wembley.

The Blades lost 4-1 in their opening league game at home to Bristol City, showing a need for more forward options having been wasteful given they won the shot count 20-9, while it was a different tale of events at Swansea where they lost 1-0 and failed to hit the target.

Millwall are stubborn opposition under Alex Neil and are sure to be set up to frustrate their hosts, who were also knocked out of the Carabao Cup following a 2-1 loss at Birmingham.

However, the Lions have recruited exceptionally well over the summer and have the attacking quality required in Mihailo Ivanovic and Josh Coburn to expose a confidence-starved Sheffield United side.
