  • Recommended bet: Luis Suarez to score anytime

Sporting head into the second leg of this Champions League last 16 clash trailing 3-0 from the first tie.

They were undone in Norway by Bodo/Glimt and now face an uphill task to progress into the quarter-finals of the competition for the very first time.

The Norwegian outfit, however, are in dreamland having sealed their fifth successive win in Europe’s premier club competition.

Goals from Sondre Fet, Ole Didrik Blomberg and Kasper Høgh give the club plenty of breathing space as they travel to Lisbon for the second leg.

Team news

The home side will be without the services of Fotis Ioannidis, Ricardo Mangas and Geovany Quenda due to injury.

Giorgi Kochorashvili is also unavailable due to injury. Maxi Araujo and Pedro Goncalves both missed the first leg due to suspension after they both picked up three cautions in the competition.

Both will be back in the squad for the second leg.

Bodo manager Kjetil Knutsen has no fresh injury issues to contend with heading into this vital tie and he could well field an unchanged starting XI from last week.

The stats

This will be just the second meeting between these two clubs in European competition following the first leg last week.

That victory ensured Knutsen’s win streak continued, with his side scoring 13 times in that run while conceding just four goals in the process.

Wins came over Inter Milan (twice), Atletico Madrid and Manchester City. The victory over Inter at the San Siro meant Bodo became the first club outside the big five leagues to win four successive Champions League games against teams from those domestic leagues.

Sporting had scored in all of their Champions League games prior to that defeat in Norway last week.

Luis Suarez has scored 31 goals for the club across 40 matches in all competitions this season. Four of those have come in the Champions League.

The Colombian netted against Napoli and Club Brugge before scoring a brace in a 2-1 win over PSG.

Prediction

Bodo enter the second leg with a solid cushion, but they will be wary of the threat Sporting will pose, especially at home.

Knutsen’s men arrive with plenty of confidence, but the home side will be keen to avoid yet another defeat.

Suarez is the danger man for Sporting. He might have been poor in the first leg, but if the club have any ambitions of overcoming this three-goal deficit and making progress into the quarter-finals, he must deliver this week.

Expect the striker to find the back of the net during the game and Sporting to save some grace, but it will most likely be the Norwegian side who will progress.
