  • PSG have not won three consecutive games since November's victories over Lyon, Le Havre and Tottenham

  • Chelsea scored three first-half goals in 3-0 win over PSG in last year's Club World Cup Final

  • Recommended bet: 2-2 correct score

Chelsea were comprehensive winners in their last meeting with Paris Saint-Germain at the Club World Cup and they are aiming for a repeat performance against the Champions League holders.

Cole Palmer's first-half brace inspired the Blues' 3-0 final victory at last summer's tournament in the USA but they are outsiders for Wednesday's last-16 first leg in Paris.

Chelsea finished sixth in the Champions League standings while 11th-placed PSG had to come through a tense play-off against domestic rivals Monaco, eventually prevailing 5-4 on aggregate.

Team news

PSG midfielder Fabian Ruiz is injured. Forward Ousmane Dembele (calf) and midfielder Joao Neves (ankle) may only be fit enough for the bench.

Chelsea's Estevao could be back in the squad but fellow winger Jamie Gittens may not be risked.

Midfielder Dario Essugo returned to action in the FA Cup win at Wrexham but defender Levi Colwill remains sidelined.

The stats

There were over 3.5 goals in five of PSG's last seven games in all competitions.

PSG have conceded the first goal in four of their last six matches.

Three of the French side's last five Champions League matches have ended in draws.

Only one of the nine previous meetings between these clubs featured over 3.5 goals.

Both teams scored in nine of Chelsea's last 11 league and cup matches.

The Blues' last seven away victories all featured over 3.5 goals.

Prediction

PSG beat Manchester City and knocked out Liverpool, Aston Villa and Arsenal during last season's triumphant Champions League campaign.

Luis Enrique and his players are targeting another Premier League scalp in the round of 16 but they may struggle to claim a first-leg lead against Chelsea.

PSG are not the same force they were in the second half of last term, partly due to injuries to key men Fabian Ruiz, Joao Neves and Ousmane Dembele.

They made hard work of their play-off against Monaco despite the fact that their Ligue 1 rivals were reduced to 10 men in the 48th minute of the first leg and the 58th minute of the second game.

Monaco avenged their 5-4 aggregate defeat in Europe by winning 3-1 at PSG in the league on Friday and the 2-2 correct score appeals in the Chelsea game.

The Blues have been impressive in Europe this term, thumping Barcelona 3-0 at Stamford Bridge and inflicting a rare home defeat on Napoli on matchday eight.

Manager Liam Rosenior has some local knowledge, having faced PSG three times as Strasbourg manager.

Rosenior's Strasbourg side let slip a 3-1 lead to draw 3-3 in Paris in October and another entertaining draw could be on the cards when he takes Chelsea to the Parc des Princes.

The Blues' FA Cup fifth-round tie at Wrexham was 2-2 after 90 minutes before the Premier League visitors scored twice in extra-time.

And PSG have drawn three of their last five Champions League matches, including a 2-2 draw with Monaco in the home leg of last month's play-off tie.
