  • Chelsea have netted in each of their opening nine Champions League fixtures this term, while also conceding in six of these clashes.

  • The Parisians dropped points in two of their four league phase away outings, sharing a goalless draw with Bilbao at the San Mames before losing 2-1 to Sporting in the Portuguese capital.

Team News

Despite his regrettable actions in the first leg, it seems Pedro Neto will escape any serious punishment for shoving a ball boy to the ground. The Portuguese ace ironically missed Chelsea’s narrow loss to Newcastle at the weekend due to suspension, but is expected to be eligible for Tuesday’s crucial encounter.

Levi Colwill remains absent after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament in the summer, while attacking duo Jamie Gittens and Estevao are both out with hamstring strains. Filip Jorgensen is currently nursing a groin issue, so Robert Sanchez will feature between the sticks after seemingly losing his place to the Danish international at the beginning of the month.

Luis Enrique almost has a full complement to choose from, but will be without the services of Fabian Ruiz and Quentin Ndjantou. Although he was struggling with an ankle problem in the week leading up to the first leg, midfield maestro Joao Neves managed to play the full 90 minutes in Paris.

The stats

Chelsea will be looking to maintain their perfect home record in this season’s Champions League, having previously beaten Benfica, Ajax, Barcelona, and Pafos at Stamford Bridge.

Both teams have scored in nine of PSG’s 11 European matches this term.

The defending champions are the top scorers in the competition by some distance, having netted an eye-watering 31 goals so far.

Over half of Chelsea’s 17 Champions League goals have come at Stamford Bridge, although two of those aforementioned four victories were narrow 1-0 wins.

Having recorded a 5-2 triumph over Chelsea last Wednesday, the Parisians are firmly in control of this tie. After strikes from Bradley Barcola, Ousmane Dembele, and Vitinha ensured the hosts entered the closing stages of the match with a slender lead, a superb late double from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia rounded off a scintillating attacking display.

Prediction

A miraculous comeback may seem unlikely, but Chelsea have the capacity to cause PSG a few problems on Tuesday evening. With nothing to lose and everything to gain, Liam Rosenior’s men are sure to plough forward at every available opportunity.

Although they have struggled to achieve consistency on the domestic front, the West Londoners have largely been highly impressive in European action. Chelsea qualified automatically for the last 16 thanks to their performance during the competition’s initial phase, a feat that PSG were unable to replicate.

Nevertheless, the 13-time Ligue 1 winners tend to enjoy coming up against English clubs. Paris Saint-Germain are hoping to eliminate Premier League opposition for the fourth time in a little over a year, after knocking out Liverpool, Aston Villa, and Arsenal on their way to a long-awaited maiden Champions League success.
