  • Real Madrid have lost one of their last eight home games with Bayern Munich in the Champions League

  • Arsenal earned a 5-1 win on their last visit to the Jose Alvalade in Lisbon

  • Barcelona have won five of their last seven home games against Atletico Madrid

Following the thrills and spills of the last 16, the Champions League enters the quarter-final first leg stage with heavyweight encounters taking place on both Tuesday and Wednesday.

Premier League sides Arsenal and Liverpool are flying the flag for England and both sides are on their travels this week, with trips to Lisbon and Paris respectively.

Spanish sides dominate the quarter-finals, with Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Barcelona all vying for places in the semis.

Real Madrid vs Bayern Munich (Tuesday, 8pm)

Real Madrid have a strong record when it comes to Champions League encounters with Bayern Munich at home.

Los Blancos have only lost once in their last eight games against the Bavarian giants in the Spanish capital.

Both teams have scored in all of the last three meetings between these sides, but Real look capable of edging this first leg on home soil.

Score prediction: Real Madrid 2-1 Bayern Munich

Sporting CP v Arsenal (Tuesday, 8pm)

Following a shock defeat at the hands of Southampton in the FA Cup quarter-finals, Mikel Arteta's Arsenal will be determined to bounce back when they travel to the Jose Alvalade.

The Gunners paid the price for fielding a much-changed side for the trip to St Mary’s and they will revert back to their strongest line-up for the trip to face Sporting.

Arsenal have saved some of their best performance of the season for the Champions League and their defence has been outstanding.

Arteta's side earned a 5-1 win on their last visit to the Jose Alvalade and another one-sided game might well be on the cards here.

Score prediction: Sporting 1-3 Arsenal

Barcelona vs Atletico Madrid (Wednesday, 8pm)

There is an all-La Liga encounter to look forward to at the Camp Nou on Wednesday evening, when Barcelona host Atletico Madrid.

Barca will take great confidence from their 2-1 away win at Atleti on Saturday in LaLiga, as they prepare to host Diego Simeone's side in Catalonia.

Having dispatched Newcastle United 7-2 in their last Champions League outing at the Camp Nou, with the likes of Lamine Yamal, Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski in their ranks, Barca are capable of building up a significant advantage ahead of their trip to the capital for the second leg.

Score prediction: Barcelona 3-0 Atletico Madrid

Paris Saint-Germain vs Liverpool (Wednesday, 8pm)

Having been thumped by Manchester City 4-0 in the FA Cup last weekend, Liverpool next face the daunting task of a trip to the Parc des Princes to face reigning European champions Paris Saint-Germain.

Winning two of their last three games against Liverpool, PSG have had the better of the Merseyside outfit in their most recent meetings.

The Reds managed to earn a 1-0 win the last time they played at the Parc des Princes last year, but Liverpool have struggled to reach the same levels of performance this term.

Arne Slot's side might struggle to contain this star-studded PSG line-up and the hosts should be able to take a lead back across the Channel for the second leg.

Score prediction: Paris Saint-Germain 2-0 Liverpool
