The 2026/27 Champions League league phase got underway in the week as Paris Saint-Germain kicked off their defence with a routine victory over Slovan Bratislava.

It’s been a tough start to the season for the Parisian powerhouse, who eased to a 6-1 victory over the Slovak side.

They’ll face serious competition for their crown from the likes of Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Arsenal, who all eased to victory in their respective matchday one ties.

The likes of Erling Haaland, Ousmane Dembele, Michael Olise and Raphinha were all among the goals for their respective sides in midweek, as the quartet all struck multiple times to fire their team to victory.

With that, we run through the key attacking stats from the first round of Champions League fixtures.

Champions League Top Goalscorers: Spain and PSG hero Ferran Torres among the star performers

Spain hero Ferran Torres shone as PSG breezed to a routine victory over Slovan Bratislava on Wednesday night.

The World Cup winning forward bagged a hat-trick as Luis Enrique’s side made a winning start to their Champions League defence, easing to a 6-1 home triumph.

And Torres wasn’t the only player to bag a hat-trick on matchday one. Indeed, VfB Stuttgart striker Ermedin Demirovic was also on hand to net three times as the German giants made light work of Viking.

Elsewhere, seven players, including Haaland, Dembele, Olise and Raphinha, all bagged a brace.

Champions League Most Shots: Dembele chances his luck

Dembele struck twice in the opening 45 minutes against Slovan Bratislava as he signalled his intentions to fire PSG to European glory once more.

He was unable to build upon his first-half double, though it wasn’t for want of trying as Dembele fired off 10 shots for the French giants.

Lens forward Florian Thauvin ranked second for this metric as he rattled off eight shots in Thursday’s 3-2 win at Slavia Prague.

And it’s an all-French trio to podium for shots in midweek, as Olise managed seven efforts in Bayern Munich’s 5-0 win over Norwegian side Bodoe/Glimt.

A further seven players managed six shots for their respective teams, with Bukayo Saka, Harry Kane and Antony among them.

Champions League Most Shots On Target: Mbappe, Haaland and Olise among the most accurate

Kylian Mbappe fired Real Madrid ahead in their eventual 2-1 win over Inter Milan on Tuesday night.

The French forward has made an impressive start to the campaign, having now struck five times in his opening five outings.

However, Mbappe will have felt he could have had more in midweek having mustered four shots on target against Inter.

Impressively, the 27-year-old hit the target with all four shots, returning a 100% shot accuracy in the process.

He wasn’t the only player to manage four shots on target on matchday one, as Haaland and Olise both matched Mbappe’s haul.

A further 10 players, including Matheus Cunha and Julian Alvarez, managed three shots on target in midweek.

Champions League Highest xG: Guirassy key as Borussia Dortmund make winning start

Borussia Dortmund kicked off their Champions League campaign with a 3-2 win over Villarreal.

Despite his own goal, striker Serhou Guirassy was key in the narrow home victory as the 30-year-old maintained his fine start to the season with a brace against the Spanish giants.

Guirassy returned the highest Expected Goals haul, generating 2.09 for Dortmund, though admittedly it meant he underperformed his xG by 0.09.

Dembele ranked second here, generating 1.94 xG as PSG battered Yaya Toure’s side, this despite firing off 10 shots against Slovan Bratislava.

Conversely, it meant that Dembele overperformed his xG by 0.06 and so, too, did Haaland, who bagged a brace against FC Porto despite mustering 1.33 Expected Goals.
