“What’s wrong with you?” Bayern Munich superstar not nominated for national team

Luis Diaz has surprisingly not been included in Colombia's squad for the upcoming international break. There is a specific reason for the omission of the Bayern Munich forward.

Coach Nestor Lorenzo announced on Friday that the left winger will miss the South Americans' games against Mexico, Paraguay and Peru.

The Colombian federation and Bayern Munich have agreed that Diaz will use the international break to rest and get back to being 100 per cent fit. The 29-year-old has had a decidedly mixed start to the season with the German record champions.

"I spoke to him and said: 'You look tired, Lucho. You don't have your usual sharpness, what's going on with you?' And then we decided that he should take a break because he has played more than 60 matches," Lorenzo explained.

Diaz alone made 51 appearances for Bayern last season. Colombia's run to the last 16 at the World Cup cut his holiday short even further. Since returning to Munich, Diaz has looked sluggish and erratic, and that has been especially obvious in front of goal. His recent performances are even said to have surprised the FCB hierarchy.

So far, Diaz has scored only in the 5-1 opening-game win against VfB Stuttgart, while he missed several clear-cut chances at Schalke and in Elversberg. "I am searching for my best version and will find it soon," he recently told Sky and stressed: "I believe that goal will come in the next game."

On Friday, Bayern Munich host Union Berlin at the Allianz Arena. Whether Diaz starts remains to be seen.
