"Unworthy of BVB" - Fans react as BVB labor to a hard-fought 1-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt

Borussia Dortmund secured a hard-fought 1-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga on Saturday as Maximilian Beier struck the only goal of the game in the 80th minute.

The Germany international whipped in a fearsome shot from outside the box after being teed up by fellow substitute Jobe Bellingham on the left as Frankfurt's resistence was finally broken.

It was another frustrating game for Niko Kovac's side, who kept losing the ball and looked disjointed in attack besides a few promising moments.

Serhou Guirassy had two attempts saved in the first half, including a one-on-one chance as Frankfurt goalkeeper Noah Atubolu got a hand to deny the Guinean.

At the other end, Younes Ebnoutalib prompted a strong reaction from Gregor Kobel in the first half while Jonathan Burkardt's effort flew narrowly wide too.

The win marks their fifth in the league this season from their opening seven games and temporarily takes them above arch-rivals Bayern Munich, who visit Dortmund next weekend for Der Klassiker.

Here's how fans reacted to Dortmund's unconvincing 1-0 win over Frankfurt:

One X user lambasted Julian Ryerson for consistently giving away the ball:

If I were Veerman, I’d beat up my coach after the match. How can you play such brilliant passes, only for Ryerson to go and lose the ball?!

Another fan wrote:

Nothing but "football"

One frustrated BVB fan minced no words, as they tweeted:

Embarrassing. Cruel. Unworthy of BVB. Kovac out.

This X user wrote:

20 corners, 0 goals—I just can’t take it anymore.

A Dortmund fan with the name Pascal G was inclined to look to the bright side of the result:

Those 3 points were sooo important. Nice!

This fan critiqued Dortmund's scrappy victory on the night:

Managed to scrape a win against a lifeless side like Frankfurt—barely. Brilliant.

One fan left a special mention for Dortmund's 'awesome' match-winner, Maximilian Beier:

Good game... the offense wins games, the defense wins titles ;) ...especially awesome for Maxi Beier...

Another fan commented on how difficult it is to watch Dortmund slog like this:

I don’t know how much longer my eyes can take this, and I already wear glasses.

Another Dortmund fan called Mike had it enough with the side's lackluster displays:

I can't take this anymore

Kovac continued to receive criticism here:

I dozed off at one point – thanks, Kovač. You secured those three points *despite* Kovač, not because of him!
