Bayern Munich were willing to pay around €72million (£60m) to sign Liverpool star Rio Ngumoha in the summer, according to The Telegraph.

The German heavyweights pursued the 18-year-old as they looked to strengthen their front line ahead of the 2026-27 season.

However, after Liverpool made it clear he was not for sale, Bayern signed Ismael Saibari from PSV Eindhoven for €50m (£41.8m) instead.

The Telegraph understands other top clubs are monitoring contract talks between Liverpool and the representatives of Ngumoha.

The teen sensation has less than two years remaining on his contract and the Reds are keen to offer him a long-term deal on lucrative terms, as per The Athletic.

David Ornstein, The Athletic’s Football Correspondent, understands Arsenal hold an interest in signing the former Chelsea winger.

Ngumoha is regarded as one of the best young players in Europe and made his senior England debut in the friendly win over New Zealand in June.

He then made his competitive debut for Thomas Tuchel’s Three Lions in the 2-0 Nations League win at Czechia at the end of September.

The teen sensation has registered two goals and three assists in 40 games for Liverpool since joining them from Chelsea in the summer of 2024.

Before leaving Chelsea, Ngumoha felt the club were prioritising new signings over developing homegrown talents, according to The Telegraph.

That led to the decision to join Liverpool, with London-born Ngumoha believing there was a clear pathway into the first team at Anfield.

Ngumoha says Liverpool contract talks are 'going well'

When asked for an update on his contract talks with Liverpool, Ngumoha said after the recent win at Brentford: “To be fair, that is all with my agent now.

“I think it is all going well. I am not too sure. I just let my football do the talking at the end of the day. I enjoy playing, and all of that stuff is in the back of my mind really. I just play for the club, and hopefully I can carry on doing well.”

Ngumoha could face a reunion with Chelsea this evening as the Blues travel to Merseyside for the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.

Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso returns to his old stomping ground tonight, having represented Liverpool as a player between 2004 and 2009.
