A strange calm and a hat worth 3,500 euros
France's Michael Olise turned heads at Bayern Munich's official Oktoberfest visit in Munich. The Bayern star paired his traditional Bavarian outfit with a striking blue woollen hat adorned with a purple cross. The hat comes from luxury brand "Chrome Hearts" and goes by the name "Blue and Purple Cross Patch Cashmere Beanie". It currently sells online for around 3,500 euros, according to the German newspaper "Bild".
Bayern's players, technical staff and administrative team arrived at the Theresienwiese grounds aboard two buses before heading to the Käfer tent. Jamal Musiala and Harry Kane led a group of stars posing for souvenir photos. Olise, meanwhile, looked completely different.
Hair pulled back, dark sunglasses on, the French winger slipped in among his teammates and the television cameras before entering the first floor of the beer tent. Only that striking blue hat and those shades gave him away.
His low-key appearance fits a pattern. Olise has stayed calm and reserved away from the spotlight, even with a blistering start to the season: 8 goals and 4 assists in 7 matches, plus four man-of-the-match awards.
He had already turned down a media interview after one of those awards. He also gave a silent interview lasting more than a minute following the encounter with Bodø/Glimt.
Nothing changed at the championship reception hosted by Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder. Olise was almost the only player who avoided the camera, and he chose to stand in the back row for the group photo with the team and technical staff.
Bayern president Herbert Hainer had a joke ready about the player's character: "If he drinks a litre or two of beer, he will certainly relax a little."
Hainer described Olise as a naturally quiet person who does not reveal much of his personality in front of people. The club signed him to play football, not to entertain, he stressed, but away from the spotlight he is "very friendly".
Olise was not the only one who caught the eye. Canada's Alphonso Davies turned up in reflective sports sunglasses in white and blue, Bayern's colours.
Davies had skipped the Canada national team to spend his honeymoon with his wife Jordyn following their wedding near Paris last July.
Captain Manuel Neuer attended alone after the birth of his second child. Ines Sara Leimer, the wife of Konrad Laimer, also caught the eye with a baby bump, as the couple are expecting their second child.
