Photo of Harry Kane causes a stir! Has Bayern Munich’s star striker won the Ballon d’Or?
Bayern Munich’s English-language X account posts a picture of Harry Kane in a tuxedo. Excitement is high. Has he won the Ballon d’Or?
"It's almost Showtime", Germany's record champions told Munich supporters on their X account on Tuesday evening. The post set fans talking. "He's going to win the Ballon d'Or", one user commented. "Admin, do you know something we don't know?", another asked.
Alongside Lamine Yamal and Kylian Mbappe, Kane is among the leading candidates for the prestigious world footballer of the year award next Monday evening. But the post is no hint that the 33-year-old star striker will win it.
Instead, Bayern Munich's English-language X account later clarified that the post previewed Wednesday's Champions League clash with Arsenal. On Wednesday, the account reposted the picture of Kane in a dinner suit alongside another post highlighting his statistics against the Gunners. The England captain has already scored 15 goals in 22 games against Arsenal.
Where did Bayern Munich's picture of Harry Kane in a dinner suit come from?
Arsenal are one of Kane's favourite opponents. He has scored more often in his career only against Everton (16) and Leicester (20). Kane has also scored against Arsenal for Bayern Munich: in the first leg of the 2024 quarter-final, he put Munich 2-1 ahead in a match that finished 2-2. All his other goals against the Gunners came in a Tottenham Hotspur shirt.
But where did the picture of Kane in his finery come from? Sport1 has found out: the footage is already three years old, and Germany's record champions used it to announce Kane's move to Bayern Munich in August 2023. Bayern chose the legendary Filmtheater am Sendlinger Tor in Munich as the setting.
The striker's actual transfer to Bayern Munich, and consequently his arrival in Munich, was delayed, so only a Kane double appeared in the original cinema footage. The cinema's operator at the time, Christoph Preßmar, told the Abendzeitung as much three years ago. Kane was eventually added to the footage digitally.
