Klopp criticises Kompany: I don't understand Bayern Munich's style of play and Kane's roles!
The German coach shone a light on the defensive aspect.
Jürgen Klopp, the Germany national team head coach, criticised Vincent Kompany's tactical approach at Bayern Munich after the Bavarians drew 2-2 with Arsenal on Wednesday evening at the Allianz Arena in the third round of the Champions League.
Klopp spoke during the first half via the "DAZN" network about the difficulty of reading Bayern's defensive system, saying: "I still don't fully understand Bayern's defensive system. Their style of play is sometimes hybrid. Sometimes man-marking, sometimes individual defending, and sometimes zonal defending. I just want to understand, I'm still learning."

The former Liverpool boss went on: "It's also said that Harry Kane is everywhere on the pitch. I find that superb when Bayern have the ball. But when I see Kane in the last line of defence, or pressing in midfield... listen, I'm not the father of football, and everyone is free to do as they wish, but I can't say that I understand Bayern's way of playing."
Asked to respond, Kompany refused to be drawn into a war of words with Klopp. He confined himself to Harry Kane's role, saying: "Harry is everywhere, and he's a player who makes the right decisions astonishingly often."
Kane proved the point against Arsenal. He teed up Alphonso Davies before scoring from the penalty spot, underlining once again his importance to the Bavarian attack just days before the 2026 Ballon d'Or ceremony.
