Ismael Saibari undergoes surgery for ligament tear as Bayern injury timelines surface
FC Bayern have now confirmed that both Ismael Saibari and Serge Gnabry will be sidelined with injury for the foreseeable future.
In a press release issued by the club, it was noted that both had sustained their respective injury issues during Saturday evening’s Bundesliga clash with Borussia Dortmund.
The Bavarian giants maintained their place at the top of the pile with a 2-2 draw at the Allianz Arena.
Bayern set to be without Ismael Saibari and Serge Gnabry
A game that promised to put Bayern three points clear of their arch rivals early on in the Bundesliga title race.
Yet, one that ended in a share of the spoils – and at great cost for Aaron Danks’ men, with Michael Olise asking to be substituted in the second half of action.
Saibari is understood to have suffered a tear to the syndesmotic ligament in his right ankle and has already undergone successful surgery to address the issue.
Gnabry, on the other hand, picked up a muscle injury in his left hamstring. Both issues will likely see the attacking duo sitting in the treatment room for several weeks and months.
Bayern Munich may have to dip into the January market
It’s not looking fantastic for Bayern’s offensive options at present:
Luis Diaz: Torn muscle bundle (out until late November)
Ismael Saibari: Syndesmotic ligament tear (out until start of February at the earliest)
Serge Gnabry: Hamstring injury (out until December)
Jamal Musiala is expected to be back in the squad in the near future. However, reporting around the club indicates we’ll be without the Germany international for Tuesday’s Champions League clash against Atletico Madrid in the Spanish capital.
Theoretically, if all goes to plan with recovery schedules, Bayern will have a full complement of attacking talent available come January.
But the question remains: should the recruitment team look to take precautionary action to boost chances of a successful campaign in the knockout stages of the Champions League? Bayern Munich would happily add the right man to the ranks to provide cover for Luis Diaz on the left flank, but it remains to be seen whether the right profile emerges on the market for the money Bayern are comfortable paying.
And history already tells us – as Jan-Christian Dreesen was keen to remind us all this week – that January transfers are a no-go in Munich unless the perfect conditions arise.
