Huge blunder by Manuel Neuer! Bayern Munich concede the fastest goal in Bundesliga history in Augsburg
A historic false start for Bayern Munich: because Manuel Neuer made a huge blunder, Bayern conceded the fastest goal in Bundesliga history at Augsburg.
The 40-year-old had just received a harmless backpass straight after the goal kick when he knocked the ball a touch too far in front of himself. Trying to send the onrushing Robin Fellhauer the wrong way with a casual chip, he struck him in the back instead. The ball then rebounded into the Augsburg player's path and he calmly rolled it into the empty net.
As the ball crossed the line, the stadium clock showed just 8.4 seconds. Fellhauer had therefore scored the fastest goal in Bundesliga history. The record had previously been shared by Karim Bellarabi (Bayer Leverkusen) and Kevin Volland (TSG Hoffenheim) with nine seconds each.
Now in all likelihood in the final season of his career, Neuer has repeatedly hinted at retirement in recent weeks and months. The long-serving number one will probably be succeeded by Jonas Urbig, who, as in the previous season, is set to feature regularly in order to make the transition easier for him.
