He is set to come to Dortmund in the winter! Borussia Dortmund reportedly have a special plan for a transfer target
Marcel Regula’s move to Borussia Dortmund, which fell through in the summer, could go ahead in the winter. According to Bild, Dortmund then want to retrain the attacking midfield talent as a right-back.
Contact between officials of the Black and Yellows and the 19-year-old Pole's camp has reportedly "barely cooled" since the summer. A deal is also said to be "straightforward" to complete.
The youth international had already emerged as a leading candidate for Borussia Dortmund in the previous transfer window. At the time, Dortmund were looking for a response to the cruciate ligament injury suffered by new signing Giannis Konstantelias.
Besides Borussia Dortmund, 1. FC Köln were reportedly keeping an eye on the youngster in the summer. Regula stayed in his homeland, however, where his contract runs until 2028.
Borussia Dortmund's plan for Marcel Regula
A transfer fee of around seven million euros is under discussion for the top talent, according to Sky. Bild report that Dortmund coach Niko Kovac plans to retrain Regula for a much more defensive role than he plays in Lubin. Dortmund have earmarked him as backup for right-back Julian Ryerson.
Since Yan Couto moved to Como 1907 in Italy in the summer, Dortmund have had no other specialist right-back in the squad. Left-back Daniel Svensson has had to fill in on the right when Ryerson has been unavailable recently. The club apparently do not consider that makeshift solution ideal either.
Regula, 19, has scored twice in ten matches so far this Polish Ekstraklasa season. He has played almost exclusively as a number 10 in those games.
