Harry Kane has signed a record-breaking new contract with Bayern Munich that runs until June 2029 and is believed to make him the highest-paid player in Europe by salary.

David Ornstein of The Athletic reported that the three-year extension is the most lucrative deal in Bayern's history, though some players in Europe will still earn more than Kane once bonuses are counted.

The 33-year-old's previous terms were due to expire next summer. Both the player and the club were keen to extend the partnership, and Bayern do not see this as his final contract. The Bundesliga champions want to keep the England captain for the foreseeable future.

“I feel right at home at FC Bayern. I love the club, the fans and the city of Munich," Kane said in a club statement.

"We have a fantastic team and, in Vincent Kompany, a fantastic manager. It makes me very proud to be part of this club. My whole family is very happy here. I was keen to stay. I’m now looking forward to the future and I want to win many more titles with this great club.”

A remarkable few weeks for Kane

The new deal caps a memorable spell for the striker. Kane won the Ballon d'Or in late October, becoming the first English player to claim the award since 2001, and he is set to become England's most-capped player during the November international break.

He has scored 156 goals in 161 games since arriving from Tottenham Hotspur three years ago. In that time he has won two Bundesliga titles, the DFB-Pokal and two Supercups, while the Champions League remains his outstanding target in Munich.

The commitment to Germany also means one Premier League ambition looks increasingly out of reach. Alan Shearer’s all-time scoring record is now likely to elude Kane, who has opted to remain in the Bundesliga over a potential return to England.
