FK Bodø/Glimt see off Borussia Dortmund after defeat to Bayern Munich
FK Bodø/Glimt have claimed their first Champions League win of the season. After a 5-0 defeat away to Bayern Munich in the opening round, successful coach Kjetil Knutsen's side beat Borussia Dortmund 1-0 on Wednesday. Fredrik Sjøvold got the winner.
At their own Aspmyra Stadion, Bodø started strongly, as they have so often in recent years, and soon had the fans dreaming of a goal. Norway international Patrick Berg saw Waldemar Anton turn his dangerous shot behind for a corner.
Bodø went close again in the physical contest when Sondre Fet shot just wide of Gregor Kobel's goal from a Berg pass. The hosts stayed on top, although Dortmund could have struck during one of their few dangerous moments. Former PSV player Fábio Silva headed into Nikita Haikin's hands.
Bodø remained the better side after the break, and this time they made it count. Shortly after Kobel denied Andreas Helmersen, the Swiss goalkeeper had to pick the ball out of his net. Sjøvold met Sondre Auklend's pass with a first-time shot to make it 1-0.
After the goal, Dortmund responded through Serhou Guirassy and Ethan Nwaneri. The latter had the equaliser at his feet with a quarter of an hour remaining, but the Englishman shot disappointingly wide.
That was Dortmund's last serious chance. Joey Veerman started for them and Félix Nmecha replaced him after an hour. Like Bodø, Dortmund now have three points. Niko Kovac's side beat Villarreal 3-2 in the first round of matches.
