Even longer than expected: Bayern Munich board member for sport Max Eberl reveals how long Serge Gnabry and Ismael Saibari will be out
Serge Gnabry and Ismael Saibari are unlikely to play for Bayern Munich again this year.
Sporting director Max Eberl revealed on Monday that summer signing Saibari is likely to be out for three to four months after tearing his syndesmosis. In Gnabry's case, Eberl said they also "assume that he will not be available until Christmas".
On Saturday, both attacking players were injured in the Klassiker against Borussia Dortmund. Saibari underwent surgery on Sunday, while Gnabry sustained a muscle injury in his left thigh.
What next for Jamal Musiala?
Jamal Musiala is nearing a return after tearing a muscle fibre while with the national team at the end of September. "We hope he can resume team training during the international break and then be eased back through partial appearances," Eberl said.
Preparations that were "not seamless" have also contributed to the 23-year-old's longer absence. During that period, Musiala collapsed twice because of absences resulting from a neurological dysfunction.
The club do not want to take any risks with Musiala and want him "100 per cent fit". Luis Díaz, who is also injured, is expected to begin team training after the international break.
On Tuesday, Bayern Munich travel to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League. The following Saturday, they visit FSV Mainz 05 in the Bundesliga.
