Christopher Nkunku seems to be enjoying being back at RB Leipzig, as his first-half hat-trick against Eintracht Frankfurt showed.

Calciomercato.com retrace Nkunku’s start to life in his latest spell at Leipzig: a goal against Hamburger SV, the hat-trick against Eintracht yesterday and an assist in the Champions League against Como. It seems that the Frenchman is back towards his best form, with Milan observing closely.

Nkunku’s time at Milan never took off. He arrived from Chelsea in the summer of 2025 for just under €40m, but after just one season he immediately packed his bags. A possible exit was already being discussed in January, then in the summer he left for Germany.

Considered not in the plans of new Milan coach Ruben Amorim, after negotiations with Fenerbahçe and a few rumours here and there the player returned to Leipzig. He was the one who pushed for the move to Germany, trying to regain some consistency after a difficult year in Italy.

So far, the choice has been the right one. Nkunku has immediately returned to prominence in a context he already knew, and in just a few months he’s already won over everyone by taking over the starting spot. Four of his six total appearances this season have been starts.

Milan and Leipzig finalised the terms of the deal as follows: a €3.5m loan deal with an option to buy at around €28m. The agreements between the two clubs does not include an obligation to buy, so the decision will rest entirely with Leipzig.

This season, Nkunku’s salary will be split equally between Milan and Leipzig, who will pay €2.5 out of the €5m net salary the player earns.
