“But I’m powerless for the second goal”: Manuel Neuer reacts to huge blunder in Bayern Munich’s draw in Augsburg
Manuel Neuer did not even try to find excuses after his massive blunder.
"That was a stupid mistake by me, I had to shift the ball on to my left because from the right I was closed down by two players. I simply should have made a different decision," said the 40-year-old Bayern Munich keeper after the 2-2 (0-1) at Augsburg.
His dreadful loss of possession allowed FCA, through Robin Fellhauer, to score the fastest goal in Bundesliga history after just 8.4 seconds. "I first had to gather myself, take a deep breath and of course I still had the hope that we could turn the game around. I think we had the chances to do that, but unfortunately we did not take them," said Neuer.
How does Manuel Neuer explain the second goal conceded in Augsburg?
Neuer also failed to cover himself in glory for the 2-1 scored by Rodrigo Ribeiro (64), even if he said on Sky: "I am powerless for the second goal we conceded."
Calvin Brackelmann's shot forced the Bayern keeper to parry the ball out to the side, and Ribeiro tapped in the rebound. "It was a fierce shot, a difficult ball that I cannot hold on to. I divert it outwards and then we are behind again and he just slots it in," Neuer said of it.
Still, coach Vincent Kompany offered no criticism. "You cannot change that or talk it up. With a 20-year-old goalkeeper, as a coach you would have a bit of work to do now. But Manu knows how he has to deal with it. It is a shame, but as a team we always stand together," said Kompany.
