BVB, rumour: Luca Reggiani's winter departure drawing closer

The Ruhr Nachrichten reports that Luca Reggiani is now "increasingly being sidelined" at BVB. A winter departure is reportedly drawing closer.

At 18, the highly talented Italian appears to sit only sixth in coach Niko Kovac's internal centre-back pecking order. Ahead of him are Nico Schlotterbeck, Waldemar Anton, Joane Gadou and Ramy Bensebaini, as well as Filippo Mane, who emerged as one of the big winners of summer preparations. Emre Can is also likely to rank ahead of Reggiani once he returns from his serious injury.

Reggiani spent the full 90 minutes on the bench during Friday's 2-2 draw against SV Werder Bremen. He then turned out for BVB's U23 side in the Regionalliga West, playing 45 minutes in their 3-2 win over SG Wattenscheid 09.

Rumours of a departure have followed Reggiani for weeks. He could bring Dortmund a fee in the single-digit millions this winter. Both Milan clubs, AC and Inter, as well as Southampton FC, had already been linked with him in the summer. Reggiani reportedly made a conscious decision to stay, but has since changed his mind.

Selling Reggiani would give Borussia financial room to sign Marcel Regula. The Polish attacking prospect was already highly regarded in the summer by the club's decision-makers, including sporting director Ole Book, after Giannis Konstantelias suffered a serious knee injury. But the Black and Yellows signed Ethan Nwaneri on loan from Arsenal FC instead, and a move for Regula did not materialise. They could make another approach in the next transfer window.

Zaglebie Lunin, Regula's club, are reportedly demanding a transfer fee of up to eight million euros. Reggiani's departure could cover the cost.

BVB, news: Lars Ricken sends Dortmund stars a clear message

BVB led SV Werder Bremen 2-0 shortly before the end but drew 2-2. Managing director for sport Lars Ricken now wants a "reaction of defiance" from his team.

"We have to draw the right lessons from the 2-2 against Bremen. Slip-ups like that should not happen, but they can occur and are all the more frustrating when Bayern do not win either!" Ricken told the Bild newspaper. The 50-year-old also sought to head off another debate about the team's mentality. "We certainly will not condemn the team now. They have earned our trust this season and last season."

On Wednesday, BVB face Bodö/Glimt in the Champions League. "We have a great chance in Norway to make an outstanding start to the Champions League," Ricken explained.

Dortmund still have "a score to settle" with last season's surprise Norwegian team. In the league phase, Borussia let a 2-1 lead slip at home and managed no more than a 2-2 draw. The points lost in the battle for direct qualification for the last 16 had "hurt BVB a lot", Ricken said.

That left BVB to go through the play-offs, where a heavy 4-1 defeat against Atalanta Bergamo in the second leg knocked them out despite coach Niko Kovac's team winning the first leg 2-0.
