The release clause in Borussia Dortmund midfield star Felix Nmecha’s contract is reportedly only valid until June 2027.

According to Sport Bild, the 26-year-old can leave Borussia Dortmund for a fixed €80 million until shortly after the end of the season. The deadline works in the Black and Yellows' favour, the report says, even though they would lose a key player and potential Germany regular if he left.

If Nmecha announced his departure early, Dortmund would have July and August to find a successor in defensive midfield. Nmecha is currently a fixture in that position, while Dortmund usually rotate their other central midfielders, Jobe Bellingham, Joey Veerman and Marcel Sabitzer.

After the deadline, Dortmund could negotiate Nmecha's transfer fee freely again. If a top European club approached the Black and Yellows about him in July or August, Dortmund could set the price themselves. According to the report, they would seek €100 million.

How much did Borussia Dortmund pay for Felix Nmecha?

Dortmund signed Nmecha from VfL Wolfsburg for €30 million in summer 2023. After an inconsistent start marked by several injuries, the midfielder established himself at the heart of Dortmund's team under coach Niko Kovac and is now indispensable. He has made 14 appearances for Germany so far, scoring three goals, and was also a regular under coach Julian Nagelsmann at the World Cup in the summer.
