Bayern Munich maintained their unbeaten Bundesliga run after being held to a thrilling 2-2 draw by arch-rivals Borussia Dortmund at the Allianz Arena on Saturday.

Konrad Laimer and Dayot Upamecano scored for the hosts, but Bayern were unable to hold on to their lead as Fabio Silva struck in the 89th minute.

The Bundesliga champions also suffered several injury scares, with Ismael Saibari, Serge Gnabry and Michael Olise all forced off during the contest.

Bayern Munich vs Borussia Dortmund: Match report

After a cagey start, the first major opportunity fell to Bayern. Alphonso Davies drove into the box before losing possession, but Michael Olise collected the ball and hit a first-time effort against the crossbar.

It took around 20 minutes for another opening to emerge in an evenly matched and thrilling contest, with Jobe Bellingham testing Jonas Urbig from distance, only for the Bayern goalkeeper to make the save.

Moments later, Ismael Saibari was played through on goal and found himself one-on-one with Gregor Kobel, but the goalkeeper came off his line quickly to thwart the danger. Saibari picked up an injury in the process and was replaced by Nathaniel Brown.

A costly defensive error from Kim Min-jae and Dayot Upamecano allowed Jobe Bellingham to score with a right-footed effort from close range, but the goal was ruled out following a VAR review.

Moments later, Bayern punished Dortmund with a swift counter-attack, as Olise intercepted a pass from Nmecha and played the ball into the path of Konrad Laimer, whose initial effort was saved by Kobel before he converted the rebound.

Bellingham then produced an outrageous piece of skill to send Pavlovic the wrong way before embarking on a buccaneering run and unleashing a long-range shot, but he could not hit the target.

In the second half, Dortmund conceded a penalty after Felix Nmecha handled the ball, but Ballon d’Or winner Harry Kane could only send his right-footed effort against the crossbar.

Just after the hour mark, Dortmund finally found the goal they had been searching for, with Serhou Guirassy firing a left-footed effort into the bottom-left corner.

However, Bayern restored their lead soon after, as Dayot Upamecano finished from close range after Kane served him up with a perfect header, although the cross from Joshua Kimmich in the build up to the goal was terrific.

Kane came agonisingly close to scoring on two ocassions, but in both cases, he narrowly missed the target, something we generally do not associate with him.

Fabio Silva coming from the bench tried to made an impact, and had a left-footed shot saved by the keeper. Moments before, Bellingham had an attempt from distance but it did not test Urbig enough.

More drama in the closing stages of the game, as Dortmund levelled the tie with Fabio Silva, who struck cleanly inside the box away from the outstretched arm of Urbig.
