Bayern could make major Michael Olise contract change amid Liverpool transfer interest
Bayern Munich could be prepared to add a release clause to Michael Olise’s contract if the Frenchman pens new terms.
There’s technically no immediate rush to extend the right-sided winger’s terms, with a contract set to expire in the summer of 2029.
However, FC Bayern’s hierarchy are concerned about the amount of money that could be left on the table were they to enter another season in 2027/28 with the wide man still yet to extend.
Bayern could add a release clause to Michael Olise’s contract
To be absolutely clear: Bayern Munich have no intention of parting ways with Olise if they can avoid such a disappointing scenario.
However, the simple fact of the matter is that a loss of the France international’s calibre would be deeply felt, given his status as arguably the leading right-sided option on the market.
“There were times at Bayern Munich when they were very proud that there was no release clause attached to any contract. But last year, there were more than a few and it’s now the way of things in Munich,” Christian Falk exclusively informed CF Bayern Insider.
“Jamal Musiala – who we hope is getting better soon – has a release clause in his contract. So this could be an idea for Michael Olise if he signs a new contract.
“However, I can say that any release clause that may be attached to the winger’s contract will be very, very high. If any club chooses to activate this, Bayern will have a lot of money on the table to put towards a successor.”
A release clause, at the very least, would give FC Bayern some control over the matter – and the level of improvement work they could to the squad – assuming the worst were to pass next summer.
But for the time being, it’s worth emphasising that Olise is happy in Munich, and that there was no desperate push to leave the club in the prior transfer window, despite links to Real Madrid.
How much will it take to sign Olise?
For a talent of the No.17’s calibre, it should come as no surprise that numbers in the range of €150m-250m [£m-m] are being batted around.
“At the moment, he has a contract that isn’t as lucrative as the likes of Harry Kane’s or Jamal Musiala’s. So this is also a good argument for Bayern Munich to try and persuade the player to stay,” Falk added.
“Either way, I think Bayern Munich would be fine with a release clause as long as we’re discussing figures like €150m, €200m, or €250m.”
Liverpool signing Barcola has made their lives more difficult
Liverpool’s interest in Michael Olise has been well-documented in recent times.
However, with it now clear that Bradley Barcola had been identified as a potential successor for his international compatriot (if the need arose), it would appear that the Reds have added some complexity to their potential future transfer strategy.
It won’t have escaped anyone’s notice that Andoni Iraola’s men failed to sign a natural right-sided winger. Victor Munoz looks well-suited to the position, but the likes of Rio Ngumoha, Cody Gakpo and new boy Barcola are all naturally predisposed to playing on the left flank.

There’s an argument to be made that this may not particularly matter, given that Iraola will commit to rotating his options on either side to build familiarity.
But Liverpool would no doubt be open to the prospect of adding a player of Olise’s calibre if it meant fixing their right side for the foreseeable future.
But with Bradley Barcola now at Anfield, this may complicate matters if Bayern can’t find a suitable successor in the event their main man pushes for the exit door next summer.
They may yet have to hope that FC Bayern add a release clause to the Frenchman’s contract.
