Augsburg 2-2 Bayern Munich: Harry Kane shines but 3/10 star flops
Bayern Munich were held to a frustrating 2-2 draw by Augsburg at the WWK Arena on Saturday in a pulsating thriller.
The Bavarian giants twice came from behind to salvage a draw, and while Bayern tried to secure all three points, in the end, it was a fair result.
Augsburg vs Bayern Munich: Match report
in a dramatic fashion, straight after the kick-off, Manuel Neuer made a massive blunder that allowed Augsburg to score inside the opening nine seconds.
Neuer’s first touch was poor, the second one was even atrocious, and it resulted Robin Fellhauer to put the ball in empty net. It is the fastest goal ever (8.5 sec) in Bundesliga’s history.
Michael Olise in his trademark style shot from distance but Finn Dahmen parried it away. From a resulting corner from Olise, Harry Kane could not keep it down.
While Bayern kept on pushing for the equaliser, Augsburg defence stayed resolute and did not allow them to create enough clear-cut chances.
The home side always looked for counter-attack, and Arijon Ibrahimovic was lively in the first-half. Chrislain Matsima came close to scoring with his header, but needed a good finishing.
Ismael Saibari had a sniff at goal from the right hand side, but it missed the target by a whisker.
Towards the end of the first half, Bayern created a great opening from midfield to attack. Saibari picked up the ball nicely, turned his marker and shot from distance with his left foot, saved by the keeper.
Right on half time, Kane hit the bar from two yards out, after Pavlovic picked up him with a beautiful pass inside the box.
Bayern thought they have restored parity in the second half through Luis Diaz. Saibari produced a fantastic cross from the right, and Diaz scored a superb volley, which Dahmen should have saved easily.
However, after a thorough VAR check, the goal was ruled offside.
Bayern shifted gears and finally got the equaliser through Ismael Saibari. A fantastic chip ball from Joshua Kimmich found Harry Kane, who rolled it into the path of Saibari, who finished with great aplomb.
Augsburg had threatened all day from counter, and in the 65th minute, they took the lead again through Rodrigo Ribeiro.
Calvin Brackelmann’s left footed effort on goal was saved by Neuer, but the ball fell to Ribeiro who made no mistake in finishing it. Alphonso Davies could have done better.
Harry Kane made a brilliant run and played a brilliant pass to Serge Gnabry who found the target, but the England striker was rightly ruled offside.
Luis Diaz then scored from a close range, but another goal disallowed as Davies was rightly ruled offside in the build up to the final pass.
Harry Kane came close to scoring with a header but Dahmen was equal to the task and made a fantastic save from close range.
In the 80th minute, Bayern levelled the tie through Nathaniel Brown. Harry Kane turned into creator with a beautiful pass with his left foot, for Brown to just tap in from close range.
Bayern nearly got the lead for the first time, but Gnabry’s effort hit the woodwork after Diaz found him in the box.
There was high drama in the dying moments of the game, but a late Bayern’s effort was ruled out due to offside.
