'"Auba comes from another galaxy": former Borussia Dortmund striker makes an incredible start at newly promoted LaLiga side'
Former Bundesliga star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (37) has made a dream start at his new club Deportivo A Coruna.
Deportivo's 3-2 win away to Champions League side Villarreal on Saturday evening saw him set several records in one go.
Aubameyang first laid on two assists, then struck the winner for the Galicians in the 88th minute. He is now the first player in a Depor shirt this century to score in each of his first four LaLiga matches.
That was not all. At 37 years and 79 days old, he is also the oldest player since the turn of the century to register at least one goal involvement in each of his first four Spanish top-flight matches for a new club. He moved ahead of former Spain international Fernando Morientes, who once made an instant impact at Valencia.
At A Coruna, Aubameyang has hit the ground running. The striker, who announced his retirement from the Gabon national team a few days ago, joined the promoted club from Olympique Marseille for a fee of €1.6 million and signed a contract there until 2028. The former Borussia Dortmund forward has now been directly involved in six goals in his first four matches and played a key role in the traditional club remaining unbeaten and sitting fourth in the table on eight points.
Much praise for Aubameyang: "He comes from another galaxy"
Fans and media in Spain have every reason to be excited. Marca wrote: "Auba comes from another galaxy. He is without doubt Depor's best player at the start of the championship."
Depor were not short of eye-catching summer arrivals either. The club of head coach Fernando Hidalgo (47) also signed Jose Maria Gimenez (31, Atletico Madrid), Marc Casado (22, Barcelona), Adama Traore (30, West Ham United), Angelino (29, Roma) and Jonathan Asp Jensen (20, Bayern Munich).
