Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says Alisson Becker's injury is not as bad as first feared — but the goalkeeper will be kept out for the next two weeks.

The Brazilian stopper sustained what appeared to be a hamstring injury late in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Manchester City but still completed the match.

Alisson will miss five matches — including against LASK in the Europa League tomorrow night — but is expected to return against Manchester United on December 17.

Asked about Alisson and Diogo Jota's fitness, Klopp said: "Both are out. Ali is a bit lesser, so we have to see.

"Not day by day — he cannot play tomorrow or Sunday. Probably not, the week after should be kind of OK.

"Alisson is not as bad [as we thought] but still bad enough. Diogo will take a little bit longer, don't know exactly."

Emery out for revenge

Unai Emery is targeting revenge when Aston Villa host Legia Warszawa in the Europa Conference League tomorrow night.

Villa lost 3-2 to Legia in their opening group game in Warsaw in September but have won their last three since and sit level on points at the top of Group E ahead of the reverse fixture at Villa Park.

Emery said: "They were feeling strong at home and we lost because we deserved it.

"For us, it was a very good example of the difficulties of this competition.

"Both teams are going to play trying to take another step ahead in this competition and see who is first in the group.

"We want to face this match trying to get a small amount of revenge for the match we played there, trying to impose our capacity, our skill and our gameplan on the pitch."

Villa must beat the Polish outfit to realise their hopes of finishing top of the group, which would see them avoid two extra games in the play-off round of the competition.

Ajax have appointed Queen's Park director of football Marijn Beuker to the same role at the Eredivisie club.

The Dutchman joined Queen's Park in 201 after spending eight years as head of football development and strategy at AZ Alkmaar.

Beuker, 39, signed a 10-year contract with the Scottish second-tier club two years but has now returned to his native country.

He said: "Ajax is a fantastic football club with a rich history and huge potential."

Pundits blast penalty decision

Alan Shearer has blasted the "disgusting" penalty decision that denied Newcastle victory against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

The former Magpies skipper and record goalscorer voiced his frustration on social media after referee Szymon Marciniak harshly adjudged Tino Livramento to have handled the ball via a review in the eighth minute of stoppage time.

Kylian Mbappe scored the resulting spot-kick, cancelling out Alexander Isak's opener and consequentially taking the Toon's hopes of knockout qualification out of their hands.

Writing on X, formerly known as Twitter, Shearer said: "A superb battling away performance from every single player.

"Shouldn't be spoilt by a disgusting decision. Well done @NUFC."

Ex-Toon stopper Shay Given added: "What a performance from the Toon. Terrible decision to give a penalty.

"Not the first time I've left Paris with a controversial handball decision."

Bite the Bulut

Erol Bulut felt Cardiff should have had a penalty against West Brom
Erol Bulut felt Cardiff should have had a penalty against West Brom

Cardiff manager Erol Bulut has called for VAR to be used in the Championship after growing tired of refereeing errors.

VAR is used in the Premier League and European competition but not in England's second tier and below.

Bulut believes the Bluebirds should have been awarded a penalty during last night's 1-0 home defeat against West Brom.

The Turkish boss told BBC Radio Wales: "This league for sure needs VAR.

"I didn't mention anything about referees because I respect them and I think they need to respect Cardiff more.

"Today was a clear penalty. We will report it. The cross from the right from [Perry] Ng, it [an alleged handball] was inside the area.

"I don't want to speak but they are pushing me. They are costing me many points."

Cambridge have sacked manager Mark Bonner following last night's 3-0 defeat to Lincoln.

The U's escaped relegation on the final day last season and currently sit 18th in League One.

Cambridge-born Bonner, 38, agreed a long-term contract in September after first arriving in January 2020.

Owner Paul Barry said: "All of us — owners, board, staff, players and fans — know how lucky we have been to have him and how hard this decision has been."
