Manchester City can cap an excellent week by booking their place in the FA Cup final for the fourth successive season by beating Championship side Southampton at Wembley on Saturday.

The Citizens beat Premier League title rivals Arsenal 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday and capitalised on that crucial result when they won their game in hand 1-0 at Burnley on Wednesday to move to the top of the standings for the first time since August on goals scored.

Southampton took time to find their feet in the Championship after relegation and they were down in 20th place after 13 league matches, but new head coach Tonda Eckert has taken the Saints on a fantastic run and they are still in the hunt for automatic promotion, although a play-off place seems more likely.

Manchester City midfielder Rodri is doubtful due to a groin injury that caused him to miss the trip to Burnley. Ruben Dias (ankle) is also likely to remain sidelined and Josko Gvardiol (tibia) is a long-term absentee.

Southampton will be without midfielder Flynn Downes, who is serving a three-match ban for violent conduct. Ryan Manning is also suspended, while defender Jack Stephens is an injury doubt with a calf issue.

Prediction

Southampton's resurgence in the second half of the season under Tonda Eckert has been one of the stories of the year in the Championship but their impressive FA Cup run looks set to come to an end against Manchester City.

The Saints have seen off Premier League pair Fulham and Arsenal in the last two rounds of this competition and they dropped points for only the second time in 11 Championship matches when they were held to a 2-2 draw by Bristol City at St Mary's on Tuesday.

The proximity of this match might have played a part in that, but Saints' hopes have been hit by the suspensions of Flynn Downes and Ryan Manning and City look to have the bit between their teeth as they target a treble.

Pep Guardiola's team romped to a 4-0 win over Liverpool in their quarter-final, having beaten Newcastle 3-1 away in the previous round, and they produced an excellent performance on their most recent visit to Wembley as they beat Arsenal 2-0 in the Carabao Cup final.

That was the first of four wins to nil in their last five games and another victory with a clean sheet looks  a solid bet for the first semi-final.
