Port Vale's stunning FA Cup run looks set to finally come to an end against Premier League giants Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

The League One side are in the last eight for the first time since 1954 after they dumped out top-flight Sunderland in the previous round.

The Blues have progressed this far thanks to wins over Charlton, Hull and Wrexham and are among the favourites to go on and lift the trophy.

Team news

Liam Rosenior could delve into Chelsea's deep squad for the quarter-final, with Liam Delap, Estevao and Alejandro Garnacho among the players hoping for recalls.

Reece James, Levi Colwill and Trevor Chalobah are all still on the sidelines for the hosts.

Vale boss Jon Brady is likely to select a lot of the players who have performed so well in the FA Cup so far.

George Byers, Jayden Stockley, Jaheim Headley and Ben Heneghan are all doubtful for the visitors, while Dajaune Brown is suspended.

The stats

Vale have progressed to the sixth round after five home wins over Maldon & Tiptree (5-1), Bristol Rovers (1-0), Fleetwood (1-0), Bristol City (1-0) and Sunderland (1-0).

Chelsea have scored 13 goals in their three FA Cup wins this season against Charlton, Hull and Wrexham.

There are 62 places separating Chelsea, who are sixth in the Premier League, and Port Vale, who are bottom of League One, in the English the football pyramid.

Chelsea are on a four-game losing run in all competitions, while Vale have won just one of their last six games.

The two clubs have not faced each other since 1929.

Prediction

Vale's surprise run to the last eight has been one of the remarkable stories of the FA Cup this year, as the team who sit bottom of League One with just seven league wins all season have considerably punched above their weight in the famous competition.

However, all their victories in the cup run have come at home, so Saturday's trip to Stamford Bridge is a very different prospect for Brady's side.

Their last two wins in the FA Cup, over Bristol City and Sunderland, were hard-fought affairs where their supposedly-superior opponents struggled on a tricky playing surface, so a trip to Premier League Chelsea, while offering a great reward for their heroics, seems likely to result in a heavy defeat.

Up against a team of the Blues' quality, Vale look set to struggle and a dominant display from Rosenior's side is expected as they seek a much-needed boost after a run of four straight defeats before the international break.

Chelsea scored five in their third-round win over Charlton, then four against both Hull and Wrexham, although the fifth-round tie against the Welsh side was locked at 2-2 at the end of normal time before the Blues took control in extra-time.

All of those sides are, on paper, better than Vale so it seems likely Chelsea will again score at least four on Saturday.
