Vasiliy Lomachenko was denied by the judges against Devin Haney

Vasiliy Lomachenko was left in tears after undisputed world lightweight champ Devin Haney retained his titles courtesy of a controversial unanimous points decision.

The Ukrainian challenger, 35, dominated the latter rounds and outpunched Haney 124-110.

But the 14,436 fight fans in attendance at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas were stunned when all three judges scored the bout in Haney's favour.

Tim Cheatham and David Sutherland both gave the undefeated American the nod 115-113, while Dave Moretti had it 116-112.

Immediately after the showdown, Lomachenko said: "I think I showed I can still be in boxing, I'm in good shape now.

"I win this fight. At the end of 12 rounds, I was sure I won this fight. I feel I controlled this fight."

Not surprisingly, 24-year-old Haney preferred to focus on his performance and steer clear of any talk suggesting he did not deserve to win.

He said: "Lomachenko is a future Hall of Famer.

"It was a blessing. He was my toughest opponent. He was very crafty.

"He turns it up in the championship rounds. [This fight] put me in the history books forever."

But a fuming Lomachenko, who broke down backstage, was left speechless with the decision.

He said: "I don't want to talk about this. All people see what happened today.

"I can't talk about this right now, it's just not a comfortable moment for me."

While Team Lomachenko were left pondering whether to appeal the result, Haney suggested he was ready to move up from lightweight.

After being booed by his hometown crowd, the Vegas native added: "It's always been tough for me to make the weight and I've accomplished everything at 135lb.

"This is my eighth title defence. But there are a lot of great fighters in the division, so we'll see."
