Achieving cult hero status at Liverpool is no mean feat given their illustrious history.

While the likes of Steven Gerrard, Robbie Fowler and Luis Suarez are modern-day icons among the Anfield faithful, plenty of players have failed to make such an impact.

We look at 10 players you could be forgiven for forgetting had ever pulled on the famous red shirt.

Victor Moses (2013-14)

Victor Moses embarked on six loan moves during a nine-year stay with Chelsea, the first of which was an unremarkable stint at Anfield.

Peaking on his debut with a goal at Swansea, the Nigerian winger would fail to net again in a further 18 Premier League outings, most of which were fleeting cameos from the bench.

Conor Coady (2011-14)

England international Conor Coady has gone on to enjoy a fruitful Premier League career, though things did not work out for him at his boyhood club.

Highly rated when progressing through the Reds' youth academy, the defender made just two senior appearances before joining Huddersfield on a permanent deal.

Alberto Aquilani (2009-12)

Alberto Aquilani joined the Reds from Roma with a fierce reputation but never hit the heights expected of him.

He made just 28 appearances during three years as a Liverpool player, with loans back to his homeland at Juventus and AC Milan followed by a permanent switch to Fiorentina in 2012.

Scott Carson (2005-08)

Veteran goalkeeper Scott Carson has spent the twilight of his career on Manchester City's bench but as a youngster, the Cumbrian was Liverpool's backup.

Despite playing only nine times for the Reds, Carson was part of the Liverpool squad which dramatically beat Milan in the 2005 Champions League final in Istanbul.

Christian Poulsen (2010-11)

Christian Poulsen is one of Denmark's all-time most capped players but the midfielder's time at Liverpool lasted just one season.

Signed from Juventus by Roy Hodgson, Poulsen fell out of favour not long after his manager was sacked and was swiftly sold to French side Evian.

Steven Caulker (2016)

Surely one of the strangest signings in Liverpool history, QPR defender Steven Caulker cancelled a loan spell with Southampton in January 2016 to finish the campaign with the Reds instead.

Signed as defensive cover, Jurgen Klopp bizarrely deployed Caulker as an auxiliary striker during his brief Anfield spell.

Milan Jovanovic (2010-11)

Standard Liege winger Milan Jovanovic signed a pre-contract to join Rafael Benitez's Liverpool in 2010 — but the Spanish boss subsequently handed in his resignation.

The Serbian still went through with his move but failed to fire in English football, returning to Belgium with Anderlecht after just one season.

Tom Ince (2010-11)

Paul Ince spent two years at the heart of Liverpool's midfield but his son Tom never quite made the grade on Merseyside.

Ince's only Reds appearance came as a substitute in an embarrassing League Cup loss to Northampton, though he went on to forge a solid career in the professional game.

Nuri Sahin (2012-13)

Liverpool fans were excited by the loan capture of Turkish international Nuri Sahin from Real Madrid in 2012 but it proved a false dawn.

The ex-Borussia Dortmund midfielder was unable to re-find his best form on Merseyside and left the club having made just 12 appearances in all competitions.

Rigobert Song (1999-2000)

Cameroon legend Rigobert Song enjoyed a fantastically varied playing career which included two years at Anfield during the turn of the millennium.

The charismatic defender racked up 38 appearances for the Reds in all competitions before embarking on a short stint with West Ham.
