Ancelotti announced

Carlo Ancelotti will take over as Brazil manager for 2024 Copa America, the Brazilian Football Confederation president Ednaldo Rodrigues has announced.

Ancelotti, 64, will turn his hand to international management for the first time in his career — but not until his Real Madrid contract has ended.

Fluminense boss Fernando Diniz will take charge of the Selecao in the interim.

Rodrigues said: "His [Diniz] game plan is almost similar to that of the coach that will take over at Copa America, Ancelotti."

Italian tactician Ancelotti has enjoyed a stellar coaching career, taking charge of Juventus, AC Milan, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

He has won the Champions League four times — more often than any other manager — most recently lifting the title with Los Blancos in 2021.

Brazil have been hunting for a new boss since Tite stepped down after the World Cup quarter-final defeat to Croatia last December.

Soyuncu in Spain

Atletico Madrid have signed former Leicester defender Caglar Soyuncu on a four-year contract.

The Turkish international, 27, made 132 appearances in five seasons for the Foxes before leaving when they were relegated from the Premier League in May.

Following previous stints at Altinordu in Turkey and Freiburg in Germany, Soyuncu is now set for a spell in Spain.

Basque defender Inigo Martinez has signed a two-year deal with Barcelona after his Athletic Bilbao contract ended.

The 32-year-old becomes Xavi's second free signing of the summer, following German midfielder Ilkay Gundogan through the door at the Camp Nou.

Martinez has been capped 20 times by Spain and made 177 appearances for Athletic across a five-and-a-half year stint.

El Trafico record

The Fourth of July match between LA Galaxy and Los Angeles FC set a new Major League Soccer attendance record on Tuesday night.

A sold-out crowd of 82,110 spectators attended the game, which the hosts won 2-1.

It was the 20th meeting between the city rivals, a match dubbed El Trafico, with Galaxy winning nine and losing just five of those meetings.

The crowd beats the previous record set in March 2022, when 74,479 fans watched Charlotte FC take on LA Galaxy.

Bastoni signs

Defender Alessandro Bastoni and midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu have signed new long-term contracts at Inter Milan.

Bastoni, 24, has agreed a deal that will keep him at the Nerazzurri until 2028, despite rumoured interest from a number of clubs around Europe.

The Italy international has played 164 matches for the Serie A outfit, most recently starting last month's Champions League final defeat to Manchester City.

Calhanoglu, 29, has signed until 2027 after making 95 appearances since his switch from city rivals AC Milan two years ago.
