Women's World Cup Tuesday predictions: Norway can get back on track

The first round of Women's World Cup group-stage matches comes to an end on Tuesday with Colombia taking on South Korea in Group H, before Group A is back in the spotlight with a double header as New Zealand play the Philippines and Norway lock horns with Switzerland.

Colombia vs South Korea (Tuesday, 3am)

Colombia and South Korea are the last two teams to begin their Women's World Cup campaigns in Australia and New Zealand and their clash in Sydney could be key in determining the outcome of Group H.

Germany are expected to top the section and justified favouritism with a 6-0 thrashing of minnows Morocco and these two sides are expected to battle it out for second spot.

South Korea have featured at each of the last two Women's World Cups but have won only one of their 10 matches in the tournament's history and they are worth taking on in the betting, having scored just the one goal in the group stage in 2019.

Colombia qualified for the Women's World Cup after finishing as runners-up at the Women's Copa America last year and in 18-year-old Linda Caicedo, who plays for Real Madrid, they have a star in the making.

New Zealand vs Philippines (Tuesday, 6.30am)

Women's World Cup co-hosts New Zealand started their tournament on the front foot last Thursday with a surprise 1-0 win over Norway at Eden Park and they can follow up with another victory against the Philippines.

New Zealand could book their place in the knockout stages with a win on Tuesday if Norway were to fail to win against Switzerland and the Football Ferns should get the job done.

They are 20 places higher than the Philippines in the women's world rankings and defeated their Asian counterparts 2-1 back in September last year.

The Philippines were by no means disgraced in an opening 2-0 defeat to Switzerland last week but they failed to register a single shot on target in the match and their opponents racked up 17 attempts of their own.

With that in mind, a New Zealand win to zero could be the way to go. 

Switzerland vs Norway (Tuesday, 9am)

Euro 2022 was underwhelming for Norway Women, who crashed out in the competition's group stage, and they will be determined to avoid a repeat at the Women's World Cup this month.

The Norwegians sustained a frustrating and surprise 1-0 defeat to New Zealand in the tournament's curtain-raiser but were up against a partisan home crowd on that occasion and will not have to contend with that in their next match against Switzerland.

In Ada Hegerberg and Guro Reiten, the Norwegians have star quality in their ranks and they are too good to stay down for long.

They look overpriced to get back on their feet with a win over Switzerland, who came into this Women's World Cup on a six-game winless run and only qualified by virtue of a last-gasp play-off win over Wales in October.
