Aryna Sabalenka is seen as the biggest danger to favourite Iga Swiatek but was beaten by the Pole in both Madrid and Rome

- Iga Swiatek is on a 12-match winning run, having won in Madrid and Rome
- Danielle Collins has a 32-9 win-loss record in 2024

Three of the last four French Open Women's titles have gone the way of Iga Swiatek, who is once again expected to excel on the red dirt in Paris.

Swiatek is two-time defending champion after winning the Grand Slam in both 2022 and 2023.

And the Pole - who also won the French Open in 2020 for what was her first WTA Tour title - spearheads a talented field which also features her seasonal nemesis Aryna Sabalenka, rising American star Coco Gauff and former Wimbledon winner Elena Rybakina.

Prior to Swiatek's first triumph in 2020, though, each of the previous six French Open Women titles had been won by different players and it can be tricky to settle on a winner in the season's second Grand Slam.

Hard to oppose red-hot favourite Swiatek

Swiatek has an enviable 88% win record on clay and she comes into this Grand Slam fresh from significant title wins in both Madrid and Rome.

It is therefore no surprise that she is 8/13 favourite with LiveScore Bet to get the job done again as she finds her groove at the perfect time.

Sabalenka has been Swiatek's biggest threat - and the term should be used lightly - on the WTA tour this season but it is hard to see her causing the Pole too many problems.

Sabalenka has just the one title to her name in 2024, albeit a sizable one in the form of the Australian Open, and she lost to Swiatek in the finals of both the Madrid Open and Italian Open.

Her struggles against Swiatek on clay will do her no favours in this tournament and she faces an uphill battle in Paris.

Collins could put together a run in Paris

There are pros and cons to backing the rest of the challengers at this year's French Open.

Coco Gauff is not enjoying her best season but she can be a danger on the slower surface and reached the semi-finals of the Italian Open before running into Swiatek.

Elena Rybakina, meanwhile, has won titles in Brisbane, Abu Dhabi and Stuttgart — beating Swiatek in three sets in the final — this year, showcasing her versatility, although her fitness remains a concern.

It could, therefore, pay to look a little further down the betting and in-form Danielle Collins is an enticing selection.

Prediction

Swiatek may not be a huge price to win this year's French Open but there are worse bets than backing the Pole to win the clay-court major for the third year running.

She loves playing at Roland Garros, having won the Grand Slam on three occasions in her career, and she approaches this year's tournament in a good run of form,

Swiatek has won three of her last four tournaments, coming up trumps at both the Madrid Open and Italian Open, and she took down Sabalenka in both finals, which should do wonders for her confidence.

On a 12-match winning streak and with history behind her, she looks likely to justify favouritism in Paris.

For those unwilling to back Swiatek at a short price, American Collins could give customers a run for their money.

In her final season before retiring, Collins has excelled, winning back-to-back titles in the spring on the hard courts of Miami and the clay courts of Charleston.

In the latter, she defeated Maria Sakkari and Ons Jabeur among others and there is a fearless streak to her game at the moment.

Prior to the WTA Strasbourg starting, Collins had not lost a match to anyone other than Swiatek or Sabalenka since the beginning of March and she looks well-poised to challenge at this year's French Open.
