Brentford to win

West Ham boss David Moyes told the press on Friday that a new contract was his to sign whenever he wants, but his side's recent run means a ninth game without a victory will cast his future into further doubt.

The Scot was expected to pen fresh terms in the wake of his team's December 2-0 wins over Manchester United and Arsenal, but the Hammers have since embarked on a run of eight without a victory, resulting in them slipping down the Premier League and being eliminated from the FA Cup.

Monday's opponents Brentford are in somewhat of a slump themselves, but looked sharp in Tuesday's 1-0 defeat at Manchester City and their recent issues can be attributed to an extremely tough run of games.

Thoms Frank's side also have a perfect Premier League record against the Hammers and they could grab another victory on Monday.

Team news

West Ham could include Lucas Paqueta, who is back in contention after being out since early January due to a calf problem.

However, Kalvin Phillips serves a one-match ban after his sending-off for two yellow cards in the defeat to Nottingham Forest.

Bryan Mbeumo and Ethan Pinnock are both sidelined for Brentford with ankle injuries, but Frank has no other fresh injury concerns.

The Dane has a decision to make up front, with Neal Maupay possessing a fabulous record against the Hammers and he could partner Ivan Toney, replacing Yoane Wissa, who took his place against City.

The stats

West Ham have failed to win their last eight games, equalling their previous worst runs without a victory, set in 1922 and 1997.

The Hammers have won their last five Premier League games played on a Monday.

Brentford are the only top-flight club that Moyes has faced in the Premier League and never beaten, with all five games ending in defeat.

That run includes the Bees' 3-2 win in November's reverse fixture, although West Ham did win their FA Cup tie in January 2023.

Frank's side have lost 11 of their 14 games since that match, including four of their last five. However, those reverses have come against Tottenham, Manchester City (twice) and Liverpool.

Striker Maupay, who came off the bench at the Etihad on Tuesday, has scored in all four Premier League starts against West Ham.

David Moyes' West Ham have failed to win any of their last eight games

West Ham's 6-0 defeat in their last home game against Arsenal was jeered by their fans, well, at least the ones who had stayed, with large sections of the London Stadium empty by half-time following a wretched opening 45 minutes,

The Hammers were just as bad in last week's 2-0 defeat at Forest, with goalkeeper Alphonse Areola keeping them in the game.

Moyes was tipped to be sacked after both games, but it looks as if the club will stick with him until at least the summer, although another defeat would put more pressure on both him and the board, who have been quiet in recent months.

Brentford have had a mixed season, but Frank seems to have found something by going against the current fashion and playing with a two-man attack.

Playing both Toney and one of Maupay or Wissa will give the home defence something extra to think about and, while usually tidy in possession, could persuade the Bees to be more direct.

Frank's side benefited from West Ham's issues defending ball into the box in November's win and an extra attacking body in there just adds to the feeling that the Irons' woes could continue.
