The sixth signature event of the PGA Tour season takes place in North Carolina this week, with Quail Hollow the venue for the Wells Fargo Championship.

Scottie Scheffler is awaiting the birth of his first child, ruling him out of this tournament, while Ludvig Aberg is missing due to a knee injury

With Scheffler and Aberg absent, world number two Rory McIlroy headlines the field and he can be backed at 15/2 with LiveScore Bet to win this event for a record-extending fourth time.

American Xander Schauffele comes next in the betting at 9/1, while defending champion Wyndham Clark is 14/1 to become the first player to successfully retain the title.

Masterful McIlroy tackling favourite course

McIlroy has won three of the last 11 Wells Fargo Championships which were staged at Quail Hollow – and he will be fancying his chances of claiming a fourth victory this week.

The Northern Irishman won his maiden PGA Tour title at this course in 2010, then won the event by seven shots in 2015, before completing his hat-trick in 2021.

Fresh from victory in the Zurich Classic last time out alongside Shane Lowry, more Rory glory could be coming in Charlotte.

Homa bursting with renewed self-belief

Third place in the Masters last month was a significant boost to the confidence levels of Max Homa – he contended for a Major title for the first time – and the six-time PGA Tour champion will approach the summer expecting silverware.

Homa's maiden PGA Tour title came at Quail Hollow in the 2019 Wells Fargo, then he excelled at the course in the 2022 Presidents Cup, winning four points from four matches.

Eighth place in last year's Wells Fargo was another excellent effort at this layout and another bold showing is expected.

Scott could prove a lively outsider

Adam Scott has found a rich vein of consistent form, regularly banking healthy cheques, and the former world number one will feel he can be a contender in the Wells Fargo.

Scott, who scored two points on a losing Internationals Presidents Cup team at Quail Hollow in 2022, finished fifth in last year's Wells Fargo.

He was third in 2006 and is playing well enough to be a factor this week.
