We have selected five games from across Europe taking place on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day to make up our accumulator.

Saturday, 3pm

Fulham could not have wished for a smoother return to Premier League action as they took a first-half lead against Crystal Palace, who then had two players sent off before the hour-mark, allowing the Cottagers to ease to a 3-0 victory at Selhurst Park.

Marco Silva's men have been one of the surprise packages of the top-flight season.

They lost their last two matches before the World Cup break but those were 2-1 defeats to the two Manchester clubs, whose winning goals came in the 94th and 93rd minutes.

Five of Fulham's six losses have come against the top five in the table and Saturday's visitors Southampton are far less intimidating.

New manager Nathan Jones's home debut ended in a tame 3-1 home defeat to Brighton and Saints, who have lost their last four league matches, may well leave Craven Cottage empty-handed.

Saturday, 3pm

Newcastle have had an extraordinary 2022 and they can finish the year with a comfortable home win over Leeds in the Premier League.

The Magpies are expected to invest in the January transfer window but their current players have not done much wrong recently, winning eight of their last nine league matches and reaching the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup.

Newcastle's latest victory was a stylish 3-0 success at Leicester, where they scored twice inside the first seven minutes, and they should aim to blast out of the blocks against an injury-hit Leeds side who have had little time to regroup after Wednesday's 3-1 defeat to Manchester City.

Saturday, 3.15pm

Real Sociedad have won each of their last three meetings with Osasuna
Real Sociedad have won each of their last three meetings with Osasuna

Only Barcelona and Real Madrid were above Real Sociedad when Spain's LaLiga season was halted for the World Cup and the Basque side should pick up where they left off against Osasuna on Saturday.

They have won six of their last nine matches in LaLiga and also took 15 points from six Europa League matches in Manchester United's group, conceding only two goals in those six games.

That defensive record suggests they should see off weekend visitors Osasuna, who have scored only five goals in six away matches in the league and have lost four of their six meetings with top-half teams.

Sunday, 3pm

League One promotion contenders Plymouth won 10 of their first 11 home matches this season and they can extend their fine form at Home Park by taking maximum points against lowly MK Dons.

The Dons are a better side than their league position suggests but the post-Christmas schedule has not been kind to them and, after an away game at Peterborough on Thursday, they face a long trip to Plymouth on Sunday.

The Pilgrims snapped a four-match winless streak with back-to-back victories over Morecambe and Cheltenham and they were 3-0 up at half-time on their way to a 4-1 win in October's 4-1 reverse fixture at MK Dons.

Sunday, 4pm

Lyon roared back to Ligue 1 action, racing into a 4-1 lead at Brest on Wednesday after just 49 minutes, and they should have too much firepower for Sunday's visitors Clermont.

Lyon's only home defeat this term was a 1-0 loss to French champions Paris Saint-Germain and Clermont, who have taken just one point from a possible 18 against teams in the top eight this season, could find themselves outclassed.

They resumed their campaign with a 2-0 home defeat to Lille, stretching their winless run to six matches, and free-scoring Lyon can kick off 2023 with a convincing win.
