- Southampton have won five of their last six matches
- Watford have scored at least twice in six of their last seven home games
- Recommended bet: Over 2.5 goals

After a couple of up and down months, Southampton have settled in well to life in the Championship and their fourth spot in the second tier suggests they should be well placed for a push for the play-offs this term.

They take an 11-match unbeaten record to Vicarage Road to face Watford, who look to have finally settled after a host of managerial changes and will have promotion hopes of their own under Valerien Ismael.

The Hornets have lost one of their last nine games and that means this pair could serve up an entertaining clash on Saturday.

Team news

Ismael has no fresh injury or suspension concerns, so could keep faith with the team that won 2-1 at Hull last week.

Will Smallbone and Ross Stewart are set to miss out for Saints, but Russell Martin may elect to stick with the starting line-up that claimed a 2-0 home win over Cardiff.

The stats

Southampton have won five of their last six games and have not lost in 11 league outings.

Four of Watford’s last six Championship matches have featured at least three goals and the Hornets have scored at least twice in six of their last seven home matches.

Southampton have netted in eight of their nine away league games this term.

Prediction

It is fair to say Southampton have had a few wobbles since finishing bottom of the Premier League last season, but that is not unusual for a relegated team and Martin’s team now look well-placed to push on in the second half of the season.

Not losing for 11 games is no mean feat in a league as competitive as the Championship, but Watford have been on a decent streak themselves and will fancy their chances of ending the Saints’ run.

The Hornets have lost once in nine and, while they perhaps rode their luck a bit to claim a 2-1 win at play-off-hopefuls Hull last week, they showed plenty of grit by coming back from two goals down to beat Norwich in their last game at the Vic.

They have scored at least twice in six of their last seven home matches, so it is likely that the visitors will have to be positive if they are to maintain their fine run of results.

All of that points to there being at least three goals, something that has happened in four of Watford’s last six league games and in five of their last six at home.
