Valspar Championship predictions: Rose to bloom in Florida

Following Scottie Scheffler's masterful five-shot win at The Players Championship, the PGA Tour remains in Florida for one more week for the Valspar Championship at Innisbrook Resort's Copperhead Course.

Most of the big names have opted for a much-needed rest but there is a sprinkle of stardust on display with Justin Thomas the 10/1 favourite with LiveScore Bet, just ahead of Jordan Spieth at 12/1.

US Open champion Matt Fitzpatrick will also tee it up while Sam Burns is bidding for a third consecutive title at Copperhead, the 7,340-yard par-71 track which is best known for the infamous closing three-hole stretch known as the Snake Pit.

Unlike the other Florida courses, Copperhead is a claustrophobic tree-lined layout where the onus is on finding fairways with accurate golf from tee-to-green usually leading to Valspar success.

English poised to contend for Copperhead honours

Spieth, Thomas, Fitzpatrick and Burns are all respected this week but none are firing on all cylinders and, at juicier odds, it is Justin Rose who looks the best bet from the more fancied runners.

Englishman Rose ended a long title drought when claiming the Pebble Beach Pro-Am last month. He missed cuts at the Genesis Invitational and the Arnold Palmer Invitational but returned to form last week when sixth at the Players.

The 42-year-old has all aspects of his game in solid shape but it is his long-game class which could make the difference at Innisbrook – he ranks 16th in driving accuracy on the PGA Tour this season and his irons have been sharp in recent outings.

Rose has played sparingly in this event in recent years but he has finished in the top eight in three of his last six Valspar appearances and is 25/1 with LiveScore Bet.

Riley looks to be finding form at the right time

Burns' second Valspar success came via a play-off but the man he defeated could gain compensation with Davis Riley taken to go one better this time around.

Copperhead takes some knowing but Riley relished the assignment on course debut, firing a third-round 62 to hold the 54-hole lead before blowing his chance with a disastrous eight at the par-five fifth on Sunday.

The 26-year-old missed the cut on Players debut last week but he was previously 29th in the Honda and eighth at the Arnold Palmer, driving the ball superbly on each occasion. A repeat of those efforts should see him go close and he is available to back at 33/1 with LiveScore Bet.

Accurate Swede can build on promising efforts

The tight confines of Copperhead should suit Sweden's David Lingmerth, who ranks 14th in driving accuracy on the PGA Tour this season and arrives in Palm Harbor having finished 10th at the Honda and sixth at the Players.

Lingmerth thrives on tough tests – his only PGA Tour title came at the Memorial Tournament in 2015 and he has finished 21st or better in three of four appearances in the US Open. He looks a lively outsider at 100/1 with LiveScore Bet.
