Benfica starlet Joao Neves is on Manchester United's radar — despite the youngster's whopping £103million release clause.

According to The Sun, Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag has sent his scouts to watch Neves, 19, who has been one of Benfica's standout performers this season.

The midfielder is a regular for Roger Schmidt's Eagles after replacing Enzo Fernandez in the side following the Argentine World Cup winner's move to Chelsea in January.

Neves' displays have caught Portugal manager Roberto Martinez's eye, with the talented teen rewarded with his first senior international call-up for their upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers this month.

While United are keen, it remains to be seen whether the Old Trafford club can afford the release clause inserted in the new deal he recently signed that lasts until 2028.

That is unlikely to be a problem for United's fierce rivals Manchester City, who 90min claim are also tracking the Selecao star.

The report indicates Pep Guardiola's men are the frontrunners for Neves' signature ahead of United as their midfield overhaul continues.

MailOnline say United are willing to subsidise Jadon Sancho's £300,000-per-week wages in order to accommodate a loan move from away from the club in January.

Meanwhile, Aaron Wan-Bissaka is in talks with the Red Devils over extending the right-back's contract, according to Football Insider.

Chelsea will allow Romelu Lukaku, who is currently on loan at Roma, to leave for £37m next summer, Fabrizio Romano has claimed.
