Premier League rivals Liverpool and Manchester United are engaged in a tug-of-war for Bayern Munich starlet Ryan Gravenberch.

The Dutch midfielder, 21, has had to make do with limited game time since completing his switch from Ajax to the Bundesliga champions last summer.

Gravenberch was an unused substitute in Bayern's 4-0 win at Werder Bremen last Friday and made only three league starts in 2022-23.

Showdown talks with manager Thomas Tuchel are on the cards as a result, with both loan and permanent moves firmly under consideration.

The Mirror suggest Liverpool and United are alert to the situation, with both in desperate need of midfield reinforcements before the transfer window slams shut.

Each team has lost senior players from their engine room this summer — particularly the Reds, who saw Jordan Henderson and Fabinho depart for Saudi Arabia.

Wataru Endo has arrived from Stuttgart to ease the burden but fresh faces are still required at Anfield.

Meanwhile, United's shambolic showing at Tottenham at the weekend made it clear that midfield strengthening is a must following Fred's move to Fenerbahce.

Eleven-cap international Gravenberch would arrive in England with a huge point to prove, particularly with Euro 2024 on the horizon.
