- Both teams have scored in Tottenham's last seven meetings with Newcastle
- Three of Newcastle's last nine away league matches have ended 2-2
- Recommended bet: Draw

Tottenham and Newcastle both suffered disappointing Premier League defeats on Thursday as Spurs lost 2-1 at home to West Ham and the Magpies were beaten 3-0 at Everton.

Managers Ange Postecoglou and Eddie Howe have seen their squads severely depleted by injuries this season and neither boss will want to lose more ground in the race for Champions League qualification.

Tottenham have picked up just one point from their last five matches, despite taking the lead in all of them, while Howe's Newcastle need to improve their poor away record, having lost four of their first seven games on the road this season.

Team news

Tottenham will assess the fitness of captain Heung-Min Son, who suffered a back injury against West Ham.

Pape Matar Sarr should be fit enough to start but James Maddison, Eric Dier, Rodrigo Bentancur, Micky van de Ven, Ivan Perisic, Manor Solomon and Ryan Sessegnon remain sidelined.

Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pope has joined a lengthy list of injury absentees including Dan Burn, Callum Wilson, Sven Botman, Harvey Barnes and Joe Willock.

Martin Dubravka will deputise for Pope, while centre-back Jamaal Lascelles (thigh) is a doubt.

The stats

Tottenham have lost and both teams have scored in four of their last five matches.

Spurs have scored inside the first 22 minutes of their last five games.

Both teams have scored in Tottenham's last seven meetings with Newcastle.

The Magpies have lost three of their last four away games in all competitions to nil.

Three of the Eddie Howe's side's last nine away league matches have ended 2-2.

Newcastle have opened the scoring in eight of their last 11 league games.

Prediction

Newcastle scored five times in the first 21 minutes of their last Premier League meeting with Tottenham, a 6-1 rout at St James' Park in April, but a tighter contest is expected on Sunday.

Spurs made a terrific start to the season under new boss Postecoglou before an incident-packed 4-1 home defeat to Chelsea in which they had two players sent off.

Next time out they conceded two injury-time goals to lose 2-1 at Wolves and they have lost their last two home games by the same margin against Aston Villa and West Ham.

The only point Tottenham earned during their recent horror run came in a thrilling 3-3 draw at champions Manchester City and another draw looks a tempting bet when Newcastle visit north London.

These teams are well matched, despite the Magpies' drubbing of Spurs towards the end of last term, and they have been similarly unfortunate with injuries this season.

Tottenham are hard to trust as favourites given the leads they have squandered in recent weeks but Newcastle's away form is also a concern for customers.

Howe's men, so strong on their own patch, have lost at City, Brighton, Bournemouth and Everton, also drawing 2-2 at Wolves and West Ham, so the draw looks the value bet this weekend.
